I figured this would help keeping the selection thread un-cluttered.

One pick in and my hopes for Matt Ryan (somewhat because of the no trades) to fall to me and the Ravens @ 8 have been dashed already.

Yep, sorry about that. I could see him going to any of the Dolphins, Kansas, Atlanta or Baltimore in the real draft.

I thought long and hard about this pick. I decided that Miami really needs a good decision maker and leader at QB. I am not a fan of workout warriors- guys who can throw the ball 70 yards from their knees. I don't want a Michael Vick athlete, a Rex Grossman or Kyle Boller gunslinger. I want a Peyton Manning, Tom Brady or Carson Palmer. They are all guys who make the right decisions, get the ball to the right guy quickly and lead their teams.

Ryan has an OK arm, but he is accurate, a good leader and someone who makes the right decisions.

I really like the pick for Miami. They are a long way away and i like competition at qb with beck. Nice one, mate.

I don't think it's a bad pick, but I really think it's worth it for them to at least see what Beck is capable of, or else they totally wasted a pick on him last year. I know that he's not a Parcells guy, but unless they're convinced Ryan is a once-in-a-lifetime talent (which I'm not), than I'm not sure it's the right direction when there are clearer needs.

It's not an indefensible pick though.

I agree.

Drafting a QB #1 is such a huge decision. They better be certain he's a franchise QB, otherwise it could set them back another 5 years.

While I'm not convinced that Ryan is a "once in a lifetime talent," it was pretty clear that Beck doesn't have what it takes to be a capable QB in this league. He was just putrid last year. He was so bad that the Phins went back to Cleo Lemon. Which should tell you something.

That being said, Miami really is in a no win situation unless they can trade down. NONE of the players in the draft fall into the "Once in a life time talent" category. None. Not either of the Longs. Not Gholston. Not McFadden.

Not sure if Gomezcat took it into consideration, but the Phins let their RT (LJ Shelton) go and are in need of a starting tackle. Vernon Carey is best on the right side so, taking a LT wouldn't hurt.

It was one of those picks that I wasn't 100% sure about. In fact, there wasn't anyone that I was that sure about, with the first pick. What sold me were his "intangibles" and leadership.

Can't disagree with it GC, and I think he'll probably be under serious consideration in reality. Makes things a little more interesting lower down though.

No, I hadn't realised that they had let Shelton go. It's something I would have to think about in the later rounds.

Well you just screwed Atlanta's plans, :D

Then again they have so many needs it doesn't really matter.

I was about to post the same thing. If the past 8 years have proven anything for the Dolphins, you can't have enough starting caliber QBs

Indeed. In fact, I think it would be quicker to name areas of strength.

(thinks for a minute)

OK..

Atlanta has a great MLB in Michael Boley.

Hmm.. Roddy White is a pretty decent wide receiver. Alge Crumpler, when healthy is one of the best TE's in the league.

They've got a couple good running backs......

Hmmm... WOW...

He's a Titan.

He's a Titan.

WHoops.. Forgot that the Falcons had let him go..

I gotta sit down and study what the Titans have done so I can figure out what their needs are.

I can help you sir.

Running Back. Wide Receiver. Secondary. Haha.

I'd have had WR first, personally. But yeah. They need a change of pace back behind White. I like their corners, especially Finnegan. Griffin's not bad either.

Actually, I was thinking more along these lines:

Defensive End, Guard, OLB, CB, RB, Strong Safety, Defensive tackle, in no particularl order (can't tip my hand ;) )

For WRs, the Titans actually have a good group if their OC can put it together. With Gage, McCareins, Roydell Williams, Chris Davis and Brandon Jones as the top 5 followed up by Mike and Paul Williams and Biren Ealy.

The Titans took a huge hit at DE losing both Antwan Odam and Travis LaBoy. So they will need to look at replacing them. Someone to spell Haynesworth and grow behind him is also an issue.

At guard, Benji Gil is looking to retire. Yes, the Titans signed the Colts Jake Scott, but they also lost their other starting guard. So, a guard could be in order at some point.

Hmm.. Guess that the Rams go another year with Orlando Pace at LT. Has there ever been a year where 2 QBs from the same team were forced to retire? That could be the case in St. Louis with them passing on Jake Long.

Chris Long was the number one player on my board and when you're picking this high there's a good chance to get your guy. I believe the organization will be very satisfied with this selection.
