Raiders Cornerback Fabian Washington expected to be shopped by the Raiders

Heard this on Sirius Radio today and the only reason he has not been traded yet is the unfinished business with DeAngelo Hall but the Raiders will be shopping him around the league.

Decent stats for the 4th year pro and maybe a possibility for this team,I could see us doing a lower draft pick trade or two for him who I don't expect that he will be asking major bucks.

I thought they were going to release Asomugha from the Franchise desination if they signed Hall, not trade Washington cause it would cost too much to keep Asomugha and Hall?

Fabian Washington is one of the fastest players in the NFL. If I remember correctly he had a sub 4.3 forty time.

I think his speed is why he is good in Madden.


I wanted him in the draft back than because of the speed. He has managed to show some talent for a crappy Raiders team, this could be worth a shot and shouldn't cost much.

Yeh you're right, that why he always develops at a faster rate than Asomugha in the game.

If Washington hadn't lost his confidence and job to Stanford Routt in 2007 and been accused of domestic battery in February, his value would be a lot higher. As is, Oakland shouldn't be asking for more than a third-round pick

Would he be worth our (as in, 94) 3rd? He sounds solid, but at the same time, there are some good players that'll be available in the 3rd for us either at ILB, Goff, Bell or CB, Godfrey, Jackson.

I don't know about that. With the Patriots ability to coach up players, I could see them getting some return out if his top notch potential. Also, he's well worth a 4th, but I don't know what the Raiders want.

The whole organization is a bust, even effected a veteran elite WR to the point he could be had for a 4th and a couple of bucks plus incentives.

Sounds like a BB reclamation project except for the domestic battery which remains a bit of a sore spot here depending on the circumstances.

LOL Video gaming and fantasy football are the antethesis of intelligent football fans...

Makes no sense to go for Hall at the same cost as Asomugha except as bookends, which is something Al DAvis has always coveted. They skimped on bonus money (the #1 QB got none last year - instead taking guarantees) and unloaded some expensive talent elsewhere on the roster over the last couple of seasons freeing up cash as well as cap. They also don't spend a lot of money on off field talent (GM, HC, staff, scouting...). It's all about Al and his vision of talent. They have more operating income than Kraft does this year as a result. So they can do some bonus deals and carry Asomugha under the tag or extend him to a cap friendly deal too. Al wants to win now because he knows he'll be dead before the long term cap mess has to be cleaned up by his successor owner.

Hmm, I actually skipped over that portion of the blurb/article concerning the battery accusations. For whatever reason, I only paid attention to the first part where it said they were "actively shopping" him, even though I actually quoted the entire thing... Sorry about that.

From a pure football perspective, If he only cost NE a late round pick, then it would seem like a good option. Worst case, you wasted a late round pick on a player who doesn't live up to his potential, and finds himself on the chopping block. Best case, he lives up to that potential, and the Patriots seemingly get over on the Raiders, again. I would think he could at least be a good 3rd CB, and would be an upgrade over the 2007 version of Randall Gay, but those battery accusations could keep him off NE's radar. It doesn't say he was found guilty of anything yet though, right?

Also, let's not use NE's swinging that trade for Randy Moss as solid indication of a fourth round pick's value. Remember, the Raiders thought Randy was done, and they just wanted to get rid of him. That was also pick 110 overall, and NE's 2008 fourth rounder comes at the tail end of the round.

I also wouldn't use some of their coaching decision's as strong indication of a players talent, or playing ability. And, the Raiders brass have proven themselves more than capable of turning an NFL football team into a complete clusterf**k...

Fabian left Nebraska in 2003. Why the Raiders spent a 1st on him I've never understood (all signs pointing to it being his 40 time). He was a better than average corner at Nebraska but was never an elite or shut down guy at the college level and made plenty of mistakes. Looks like his tenure with the Raiders has been marginal as well. I don't think there is anything especially intriguing about the guy. I suppose I would take him as a #2 over Ellis H. though. I think he'd be worth a 4th, possibly our 31st 3rd (though I wouldn't be thrilled).

1.) Can Washington be a #3 corner in New England's system?

2.) What round draft pick is fair value for Belioli to offer for a #3 corner to fit in New England's system?
