The Player you don't want to see the Patriots select at #7

For me it's Ryan Clady. I know some people around here really like him a lot. I just think there are a lot of betters players they could select. Also, I don't believe their Offensive Line is as bad as some people think around here.

I'd love to see Clady picked. It would improve both the passing and running game, make the likelihood of a breakdown like the SB happening again slimmer, and be a huge building block for the future, and the final 5-10 years of Brady's career.

I don't want to see ANY CB picked at 7, and I have no interest in McFadden. Really, the only players I would want to see picked at 7 is Long(s), Clady, Gholston. Groves is an acceptable reach, but I'd rather try and trade down first.

Clady could start day 1 so that pick isn't as bad as you think. Though I agree there may be stronger needs elsewhere. Taking McFadden, Dorsey, Ellis, or any guy that is going to sit the bench for a few years would be a bad decision.

Mike Jenkins. Even with his nice 40 times, I don't think he is worth a #7 with his inconsistent effort on the field. If we go with CB at #7, i'd rather take Rodgers-Cromartie, Cason, or McKelvin.

Nothing would surprise me, Brett, although I don't think Clady will have a high enough rating on the Patriots' board to go No. 7. While it was only one opinion, I did ask one personnel evaluator who has studied Clady a lot closer than I have and was told he wouldn't be a good fit in New England. Of course, the only opinions that ultimately matter are Scott Pioli's and Bill Belichick's, and I don't know what they're thinking regarding Clady. Overall, the reason I say nothing will surprise me is that I've tried to narrow things down in the past and been burned. In 2005, I said "We don't know who the Patriots will select in the first round, but we can assume - based on their past history and the way they view the position - that it won't be a guard." Then they took Logan Mankins. Since that point, I've taken the nothing-will-surprise-me approach.

cant not disagree more, chris long will make a great transition to linebacker, he has a 75 minute motor, (for the slow people it means he will play the full 60 mins and overtime if need be, he knows all pass rushing moves, strong quick, smart player, he's better than gholston who is just an athletic freak, and may take a while to transition into a good lb, dont get me wrong i like gholston, but give me chris long any day

I agree. When you pick at #7, you take either a stud LT or a pass rusher. This is a deep draft at CB, no need to pick one at #7.

That may be true, but there is no actual evidence to support that statement. The only skill he has demonstrated that would definitely translate is the ability to penetrate the line and get to the QB...and Gholston has demonstrated greater skill and production in this area.

You just described Dan Klecko. If you have the opportunity to party at the Playboy mansion, you don't go looking for girls with a great personality. Long will be a fine player, but doesn't have the skill set to distinguish himself at #7...at least in the Pats system.

You just lost your argument. Dan Klecko? Klecko was an extremely undersized college defensive lineman who had no position on this team to begin with. Long would have a clearly defined position. OLB. As for you claiming that Long doesn't have the skill set to distinguish himself as the #7 pick by being in the Pats system, just what are you basing this on? ANYTHING of any relative value? Or are you just talking out your rear end?
