yippee!!!

this is assuming a few things: 1. most of the studs are off the board so we trade down (C.Long, J.Long, DMac ect) which seems likely, 2. We sign Ty Law which seems likely.

Trade down options: Chicago ~ if Ryan falls to us they may want to trade up. Carolina really likes Clady also so that is a possibility. Anyways it looks like there probably gunna be a good chance to trade down with someone, so im just gunna go with the chicago/carolina scenario. I think i finally figured it out.

Rd 1 #14 - Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie CB Tennessee St.
Rd 2 #44 - Quentin Groves OLB Auburn
Rd 2 #62 - Jerod Mayo ILB Tennessee
Rd 3 #69 - Tavares Gooden ILB Miami
Rd 3 #94 - Dexter Jackson WR Appalachian St.

Goff over Mayo and Mayo over Gooden is my preference.

Other than that, tis fine, though I doubt Groves falls to 44

If Groves is there at 44 I'll run through a mall naked. Not happening. Pretty sure I'm safe on that prediction.

Patriot Missile, i HOPE you're a HOT chick! lol Otherwise that could be scary. Funny post.

This mock to me would be like a dream. I'd take it.

Would love to do something like that. If Groves not there at 44. C.Avril seems to fit the bill. Also, if we take an inside lb at 62. I'd rather have another cb in the 3rd round than another ilb. Would rather have an ol or te too than wr. We are loaded at that position.

Dexter Jackson would give the Pats a kick return option other than Hobbs or Maroney and a punt return option other than Welker. Jackson also would be a good slot receiver replacement/compliment to Welker.

I'd rather have Jackson as the #5 than Sam Aiken or CJ Jones.

CB and ILB are both issues. Improving OLB (via a better pass rush), helps to improve the CB position as well. The ILB position is in greater need of help, IMHO.

Wouldn't a rookie wr be our 6th guy? Moss,Welker,Gaffney,Washington and CJ. He might be able to return kicks. But, a good OL will probably see the field if someone is injured. Maybe, even right away if S.Neal isn't ready to go.

Don't agree about ILB over CB. We need a starting cb and a nickel back. The ILB opposite Bruschi won't be on the field any more than our nickel back. If we draft one rookie ilb early. Would be shocked if we take another one right after that. Given our past history. I'd like to draft an ilb early. Just not two of them. Very likely rookie ilb drafted not starting. We have Vrabel,Thomas and Bruschi. I think we will sign a vet to play inside opposite Bruschi.

I think the "IF" Ryan falls to us at 7 proposal is completely gone, now that the Falcons have all but guaranteed that Ryan is their guy after cutting ties with Harrington. We know it's not going to be Chris Redman. The trade down with Carolina, looks much more likely if they covet Clady that much. DMac won't be there, but I can see someone drooling over a Dorsey who might be there, Detroit comes to mind picking at #15 after losing Rogers.

Why all the love for DRC? Have you seen the competition he faced last year? A decent senior bowl and nice striaght line speed doesn't make a great Pats CB.

Decent speed, decent tackling and great quick twitch is what BB covets at CB. Remember we are a disguised zone defense for 90% of the time.

Mayo is much better than Goff imo, Kiper has him #15 on his draft board right now and thinks he could go in the 1st, yet most mocks have Mayo going in the 2nd.

LOL. I'll actually join in that dare. I really like Groves, but Pats can't wait for 44 if they want him.

My pecking order would be Henderson -----> Goff -------> Mayo

That being said, I've got them clustered fairly close and would be happy with any.

Dryheat, I've seen a lot of Henderson and he is not thick like his brother, I am not sure he could last long at ILB without a serious weight and strength gian. If he faced an OG next year, the best he could hope for is to run around the OG and BB hates those type ILBs.

Really? Watching him, I didn't get that impression at all. Of course, he played on the outside at UM, so it's a projection in any case. He measured 6-3 @ 244 at the Combine, and while 23 lifts isn't super-human, considering his wingspan, it seems he has enough physical strength.

Or do you think he lacks the requisite manhood to take on blocks in the middle?

Agree. In what world is it a good idea to draft a barely known CB who's sped up the charts b/c of a workout and a recently famous last name? If the Pats take Cromartie I'll be shocked.

Maybe if you're projecting 4-3 LB's, but we're not. Goff projects better at 3-4 ILB.

Goff isnt as good of a football player as Mayo its as simple as that. Goff is not a top athlete. He would be good for depth but there are better options as a starter imo.

Mayo and Goff are about the same size right now too, Mayo added around 10 pounds in the last few months and is up to 242 pounds, Goff is 245. Mayo is a junior too and still growing, this kid is going to be the best linebacker (inside) to come out of this draft watch. Kiper already has him as the #15 player in the draft, i dont agree with that but hes deffinitly the best inside backer in the draft.

Mayo will at times get engulfed by OG's, can have trouble shedding blocks, could use better hand placement, gets caught out of position, can be over aggressive, he's not a prototypical run stuffer, and can bite on play fakes.

That's not an ideal 3-4 ILB, briz.

Also, why are you bringing up Kiper's ranking of him? Kiper's not talking about him as a 3-4 ILB in those rankings, and you (briz) already know where I stand on Kiper, lol.

Goff's a pretty damn good athlete. He was a WR in HS, and he's still filling out his frame, which is bigger than Mayo's. Also, his triangle numbers were very good, and his overall workout numbers at the combine where some of the best posted by any ILB in the past 8 years. I think that qualifies him as a "top athlete"...

If he played for Michigan or OSU, you would be hearing a lot more about him.

we dont need a prototypical run stuffer imo, we just need a darn good linebacker at this point. Zach Thomas is not a prototypical run stuffer either but the pats were trying to get him. There is no Rey Maualuga in this draft, Goff has good size but hes just not starter material. Mayo has great size hes 6'2" and over 240 lbs, he could play inside in the 3-4 even though he is better suited to the 4-3, he is a very good athlete with top notch intangibles. His football IQ is very high, football is important to him, hes got leadership qualities, fast and good in coverage, everything you look for in a starting linebacker. He had 80+ tackles his sophmore year while missing a few games, and 140 tackles his junior year in the SEC! Anyone that has 140 tackles in their junior year is something you got to notice. This kid is a beast if he stayed in school for his senior year he would probably be a mid-1st round pick in 2009 for sure. Im telling ya i got a feeling about this guy he is special and will be a stud, we could certainly use him.
