HOUSTON (AP) -- The Houston Texans signed free agent running back Chris Brown on Thursday.

Brown appeared in 12 games last season for the Tennessee Titans and finished with 462 yards rushing and five touchdowns. He was taken by the Titans in the third round of the 2003 draft and ran for 2,757 yards and 16 TDs in five seasons with Tennessee.

He'll join Ahman Green at running back with the Texans and his signing could mean the end of Ron Dayne's tenure in Houston. Green is expected to be healthy this season after missing nine games in 2007 and finishing with 70 carries for 260 yards.

I would Like to see a big goal line runner brought in for the tough 3rd and shorts. I like Evans as well, but when he comes in you KNOW it's a power run, where I think with Dayne, you have a little more flexibility.

HOWEVER, this is all based on if the Patriots do not sign Owen Schmit FB form WVU, the guy is a beast, has speed and can catch, the man is a beast, 12 broken facemasks during college, and has the heart I want to see on the Pats as a FB.

Was red zone scoring much of a problem this past year? I don't think so, so I don't see a real reason why you want a "power" back. I won't even touch upon Ron Dayne being considered a "power" back.

Re: Dayne

Well I think there were many instances where we passed on short yardage didn't get it and then went for it on 4th down, where we passed again.

Sure most of the time this worked, but it would be nice if we can get those 3rd downs, or set a tempo earlier in the game with a little power running.

I do not want to see 6000 yards passing next year, I much rather see a 2000yd running back.

Re: Dayne

As well as, if you looked at our close and tough games, there were many drives that we simply stalled out, and didn't have any flow... we need more balance in the run game and we might not stall out so much even against the better competition.

If you want to look back at last year, and point to the 10 games that were blowouts, and simply fun and gun for Tom, then feel free, but I don't even look at those as comparison for this coming year because this is the NFL, the competition always catches up to you, there wont be as many 50+ point games this coming year.

Re: Dayne

Do you want cut morris for him?

we carry 4 backs and except 4th guy to be a key in spl teams and play TE,H-Back and blitz pickup guy which rules out evans. then we have faulk and i do not think he can replace him .so that leaves maroney and morris so i am thinking the above.

Re: Dayne

Maroney, Morris, Faulk, Evans (not great, but BB loves him and he's versatile), Eckel (S/T) - you want to add Ron Dayne to that because he might do slightly better at the goal line? He seems like a pretty one-dimensional player, and those kinds of guys are generally personae non gratae in N.E.

Re: Dayne

Evans (not great, but BB loves him and he's versatile)

i do argu this point. we are a great team and do not carry over bad guys. look at the SD game again especially evans on the tackle side in front of maroney.
he was blocking merriman and then their MLB coming over .2 young LB were blocked by 1 FB coming off the back field. He was very good in goal line situation. i do not think their are 2 million a yr FB who you can send again 270lb merriman for a full game in your running formations.he also had some good catches when he splits as wr. how many times have we seen him be the first guy to tackle a returner.last year he played 1 game after being in the hospital the day before.

just do not thrash players because some media idiot does not give him his props.

or for that matter give me a 16 game active roster player who has been bad in BB/Scott 6 yrs in a non injurey related position.

Re: Dayne

before Morris got hurt he did plenty of power style running. With LoMo, Morris, and all our other weapons we should be easily be able to keep the opposition guessing.

Re: Dayne

Evans is better than Dayne....Sh** Eckel may be better than Dayne (I am a huge Eckel fan so that may be a bias statement).

This, people, is in response to me saying that Heath Evans is "not great" while acknowledging that Belichick "loves him" and pointing out that Evans is "versatile." ************, maybe step off the homer pedal for a second. "Trashing" him? Give me a break.

???

I've read this sentence 6 times already and still don't get it.

As pat jew said HUH?

I read it a few times and it seems like you are asking to name a bad player that BB/pioli allowed to start for 16 games.

Stupid question because if they stunk that bad I would hope at some point they lose their job.

There have been plenty of guys that they have brought in who they expected would be a 16 game starter and it did not work out. Starks, Beisel, Hayes, to name a few.

Yeah... going undefeated in the regular season sure sucked ass.

Re: Dayne

I would want to cut Eckel to sign Dayne. I have been lobbying for five running backs, including a short yardage back for years now, and was disappointed to start last season with only four running backs.

Dayne can also get more reps if someone is injured, so he is a backup to Maroney and Morris should on get injured.

so which position did we carry too many players in that you want to cut.we can only have 53 players and we moved eckel to pratice squad and back a few times i think dayne cannot be moved to pratice squad and had to be cut and resigned every time.

Re: Dayne

When Evans comes in all that you "know" is that he's going to make it about 2 feet upfield, get hit, and drop immediately as if he was on fire.

Re: Dayne

It's hard to carry 3 running backs (LoMo, Faulk, and Dayne) that aren't on your kick and punt coverage teams.

Yeah, the opposing defense will stuck because Dayne sucks so bad as a runner and pass catcher that no one in his right mind would give him the ball in a key situation, and since he can't block worth a crap, the opposing defense will figure it can't be a passing play. Brady isn't exactly a threat to run, so the defensive play caller will have to think it's a fumblerooski play. While all 11 defensive players are looking on the ground for the ball, Brady tries to drop kick it, but Dayne gets in the way and the ball hits him in the face. The ball bounces into the endzone and Dayne, still stunned by having the ball hit his face mask, trips on his own feet and falls on the ball in the end zone. TOUCHDOWN!

Yeah, that might just work.

Or we could hand it to Maroney or Evans, or pass it to any number of receivers.

Yeah, sort of like Patrick Pass, excepts Evans holds onto the ball.
