Don't know much about Kalimba Edwards ... all I know is when you get cut from the Lions D, you must have some warts.

Apparently he couldn't get the job done as a 4-3 DE, but could he play OLB in 3-4? He certainly has the size, 6'6 265. Not sure how fast he is though.

Lions apparently thought he couldn't be more than situational pass rusher.

Anyone have any insight on this guy?

I don't know much about him but I think some experts projected him to be an outside LB in a 3-4 defense. I remember many people on this board wanted the Pats to draft him. If he's willing to play OLB for the Pats, then they should give him a look. With that said, he will probably end up with the 49ers.

A liability against everything. Run, pass rushing, salary cap...

Maybe he could cover the pass as a stand-up LB? Then again, why even try?

Re: Kalimba Edwards Cut | Could he transition to OLB?

Was just on a Lions board (yes, they exist) and, FWIW, consensus is they are happy, he sucked, and was overpaid.

I also found this choice post which really sums up life as a Lions fan:

We just cut a 1st round choice and a 2nd round choice. Both of them basically did nothing as a Lion. 1st rounder Charles Rogers cut. 1st rounder Joey Harrington cut. 1st rounder Mike Williams ran out of town for nothing. Why can't we win games again?

Re: Kalimba Edwards Cut | Could he transition to OLB?

The Lions suck because they are terrible at drafting, have a bad overall organization, and lack a winning attitude. Other than that, the best line I can give came from a former coach who said, "Playoffs!? Don't talk to me about playoffs!"

As for Edwards. The most I'd offer him is a vet min, prove it kind of deal. He has the physical attributes to be an OLB, but does he have the technique and brains to play it for the Patriots? He would probably need to be "coached up" quite a bit.

Re: Kalimba Edwards Cut | Could he transition to OLB?

First of all transitions take time . 2 - 3 yrs for even rookies . so if you are doing this then this guys have to atleast play in rotation as a DL for a year.

so do you cut green to clear a rooster spot? as i think green cap numbers might be comparable to this guys if he signs. wright and other DL are all low round rookies.

To keep this simple, I dont think you improve your team by bringing in guys that are getting cut by the Lions.

“We men, man,” Edwards said on December 31, according to the Detroit Free Press. “Ain’t no hostility. You sign a contract. If you produce, you keep that contract. If you don’t, you don’t. Me and Rod, we men.”

Yeah, the guy sounds like a genius who would thrive in a Belichick system.

No, but maybe the Broncos will cut Travis Henry...

Coming out of South Carolina, I was really high on this kid. If he would have landed on a 3-4 team, I think he could have been an above average OLB.

I do not question the skill of the players the Lions are drafting, I doubt their organizational system, strategy and objectives and their ability to get the right players on the right seat on the right bus.

Millen drafts style over substance and if ever anybody needed some tutoring from Scott Pioli about matching players to a system, it is Millen.
