Doug Mirabelli released

It was time for him to go about 3 years ago..

You beat me to it, I would like to see a little more out of Cash before we cut Mirabelli, but whatever the club thinks is best. They both appereantly hit about the same.

To think the Sox gave up Josh Baird and Cla Meradeth for him.

Assuming Cash makes the club, I guess it's nice to replace a poor offensive, adequate defensive catcher with a good defensive, "worst offensive player in all of baseball" catcher. I'd really like them to have a non-sucky backup, though. Whatever, Mirabelli just needed to go so that if Boston ever gets an opportunity to have a non-sucky backup we don't have to deal with it then.

C'mon Kotteras, you're our only (slim) hope.

Nah, Cash is actually much worse than Mirabelli. In 100 at-bats in 2003 he put up a negative OPS+. His career OPS+ is 26. He's downright terrible offensively. Check out his stats if you want to be amazed:

:bricks:...Perhaps they feel he is due ... :bricks:

I don't see how this is such a great move. The only way that Cash is an improvement over Mirabelli is that he is a few years younger, but hes still old enough where expecting him to improve offensively is basically out of the question. Cash is better defensively, but the only thing that Mirabelli needed to do defensively was catch Wakefield, which he was fine at. This is not an improvement.

I do agree that its better to deal with it now than in mid-season if someone better comes along. Keep your fingers crossed for a Jeff Clement or Taylor Teagarden trade.

I wonder if they have their eye on the future replacement for Varitek. If Tek goes down this year we are SCREWED.

Can a knuckleballer really be dominant? Anyway, I'd say we haven't seen the last of Mirabelli in a Sox uniform

Wake can be absolutely dominant for stretches of time and then all of a sudden get shelled. The Knuckler is either workin or it isn't.
