Now that it looks like Troy Brown won't be back, how about picking up a young player in his mold in the draft.

Andrew Hawkins is a WR/CB/ST player from Toledo, who happens to be Artrell Hawkin's brother. He will be a late round prospect because of his size (5'7, 187), but he is the type of versatile, hard working player that could find a spot on this roster.

He plays wide receiver and cornerback, returns kickoffs and is an excellent gunner on punt coverage.

He also has legitimate athleticism. At his pro day he ran a 4.34 40, had a 38" vertical, and a 6.81 3 cone.

Here is a great article on him, showcasing his love of the game, his dedication to it, and his willingness to help his team win (he asked to be a gunner because he believed he could make his team better)

I am hoping he is a late round pick up for the Pats, and doesn't get picked up by the Jets to play with his brother.

A 38" vertical at 5-7 is impressive. Seems like an athletic freak, but how well does he play football?

Troy Brown never screamed "elite athlete" to me. I actually thought that our next Troy Brown got 100-something catches for us last season.

Might be a nice pick-up

Couldn't have said it any better!!

What about BAM?

You guys are completely right. Man was I wrong!
I just posted this because I thought it was an interesting story about a versatile little player. I promise never to compare anyone to anyone ever again.

No, the player is very interesting. I'm glad you posted the link. The comparison to Troy Brown is what's puzzling to me.

The point of the comparison is a player who is WR first, could play CB in a pinch (or vice versa) and also plays special teams. I am not saying he is a going to catch 100 passes like Troy, but just a versatile player that has many roles on the team, and is the type of player that would do whatever the coach's asked.

Where are the Pats biggest needs for a DEPTH player. KR/PR/Gunner

Does he fit that? Yes. And, for the record, he is primarily a CB. He's 5'7 so that makes him REALLY short, even with his 37 inch vertical. That being said, He could be a guy who could be the KR/PR/ST type player instead of Dexter Jackson. The Upside to Jackson is that, I believe, he could be pushing for serious playing time in 2 year.

BTW, I think you do the kid a disservice by comparing him to Troy Brown. And, to my knowledge, Troy never played CB in college.

haha. you people are crazy. I post one thing and all of a sudden i am pissing on Troy Brown's grave. I was just trying to post a story. ok here is my new post.
(But first, Dabruinz
"And, for the record, he is primarily a CB."
He has actually been mainly a WR in school and was switched over to defensive side because of his skills and lack of depth. So you are wrong.)

OUR NEW ANDREW HAWKINS
Check out this player! He might be a good pick up later in the draft. he plays cb/wr, returns kicks and plays gunner but he is NOTHING LIKE TROY BROWN! I promise you, if any of you even mention Troy Brown's name I will rip your heads off for even mentioning him when describing a versatile player.

Remember, if you want to look him up, search by "andrew hawkins" and NOT, i repeat ,NOT "Troy Brown"

That better? Jesus.

Jesus! I've heard of him...didn't realize he was coming out this year. I'd definitely use one of our thirds on him.

I've heard Jesus can drop back at QB from the 10, heave it up, and run it down to catch it in the end zone.
I would like to spend a 3rd, but I hear he has some character issues. Something about taking a dump in a girlfriend's closet or something. I don't know.
Maybe a 4th?

I am going to miss old Troy:(

Dude - You seriously have a major inferiority complex or something.

1) Hawkins did more CB drills than anything else at his Pro-Day from what I have found.

2) No one is acting like you are "pissing on Troy Brown's Grave." People are pointing out the flaws in your logic. Which is well within their right. Just as it was within your right to post that logic. What you need to understand is that they have the same rights you do. What you also need to realize is that many of the people you are seriously over-reacting too agreed with you that he was an interesting prospect.

3) I stand corrected that Hawkins was primarily a CB in college. That is where he's listed on NFLDraftScout.com. NFLDraftCountdown doesn't even list him in their top 40 for CBs or WRs.

So, he is probably a UDFA if anything. Yes, he has versatility (I gave you that but you pissed all over it). But the comparison to Troy Brown is lacking because Troy didn't play CB in college.

If you can't take criticism of any sort, then you need to just stop posting because you seriously went over-board on your reactions to people.

of course i have an inferiority complex! I'm only 4'9. And I'm ugly to boot! What would you do if you were me? Probably jump off a bridge.
Hey, I'm over it. Internet fights are fun and all, and I overreacted, I just have to defend my short/ugly honor. You understand. We will disagree to agree on my post and leave it at that.

I'll try to steer this bizarrely sidetracked post back on course ...

Great piece and great find. This guy def. seems like a Pats type player. Maybe the Troy analogy isn't spot on (as Hawkins sounds far more athletic), but the fact he plays WR/CB/KR/ST matches up well with Troy Brown's overall duties with NE.

What is this guy graded to be drafted? I'd imagine later rounds?

As much as I have read, it seems he will be a late round guy. Good at a lot of things, not great at any, that's my guess. Maybe a practice squad guy for a year or so?
