Ty Law talks Pats, Jets
Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff
March 12, 2008 04:18 PM

Free-agent cornerback Ty Law said today that he’s been in contact with the Patriots, but at this point the Jets have shown more aggressive interest in him. Law visited with the Jets today.

Asked about his prior contact with the Patriots, Law said he had a “good conversation” with coach Bill Belichick.

“I’d say we’re definitely on good terms. He did express his interest in me coming there and I expressed mine, but I don’t know if it’s something that can get handled soon enough,” Law said.

Law noted that what the Patriots are currently willing to offer and what he is seeking are not "in agreement."

Meanwhile, Law touched on his visit to the Jets today, saying: “I’m familiar up here with New York and Eric [Mangini] and this system. They’re been aggressive and enthusiastic about getting something done.”

Man, I feel like such a sucker. Again. Damn you, Ty. Don't be a bonehead, again.

Ty is a greedhead until the last.

What the Jets are offering can't be more than a million more than what the Patriots have offered, even if it's double.

The fact he would damn himself to losing after all the money he's made means what?

Junior Seau he isn't.

well looks like ty wants his money again.
dosn't look like he will be back here.

Didn't he say a week ago that money wasn't as important as playing for a winning team. This guy us a riot !!

I hope the Jet's sign him for big bucks !!

Get yo' money where you can Ty. This is a business.

My thoughts exactly.

Good luck to Law. I appreciate what he did for the Pats and I hope he gets the best contract he can. It'd be nice to have him back, but I can't blame him if someone else is offering him something better.

I predict that the Pats increase their offer, but do not match the Jets offer, and he comes back for a chance to win.

I hope he decides to come back to the Pats. His presence will definitely add some depth in the Pats secondary. But I wouldn't be surprised at all if he signs with the jets, since the jets seem to be on a spending spree this off season.

If the Jets are going to overpay for him, they can have him. I want him back on the Patriots, but not at all costs. I would only like him at a value deal.

If he wants a chance to win another championship, he will take a deal here. If he just wants to make more money, he will go to the Jets.

My guess is that if he does sign with the Jets that the Pats may have another shot at him next year because Tangini could be out of a job after this season if they do not make the Jets significantly better recordwise and he could be a cap cut casualty with the next regime.

Clearly, it's not to true Hall of Famers like Junior Seau, and classy stars like Tedy Bruschi.

For some players, like Tom Brady, winning is important.

For you to deny this is just blindness.

Ty Law is the key......the only superbowls won by NE is when Ty is on the team!!

Except the 2004 Super Bowl, he missed half the season and the playoffs.

Why do people always feel like they have to take sides in these things? It may not be just a matter of money, perhaps the Pats want him to wait until after the draft or something and he's scared that he'll end up in a position where his other offers are all gone. Who knows? I just don't understand why people need to make it a Ty Law v. the Pats type deal.

I just hope he doesn't get "insulted" by any Patriots contract offer... or call Belichick a liar for that matter.

Winning is important, yes. But Ty has already won.

So Ty Law is not a true Hall of Famer? Ty has 52 regular season INTs with 7TDs, plus another 6 and a TD in the postseason. And three Super Bowl rings. Sorry, but Ty is a shoo-in.

Shoo-in? That may be debateable.
