but i would be really stoked if they could pull this off, couple new stud corners, Johnson lessens the sting of passing or losing out on McFadden, and id rather have Taylor short-term over Gholston/Groves.

That's the best mock I've seen as far as being amazing deal for the pats.
Except Groves needs to be a Patriot switch out cromaterie for groves and i'm stoked.

so i want jon goff....

if you would put him in there somewhere, i would be set...

(i relaly like cason btw)
maybe take groves with number one pick, which means we dont need jason taylor...
with second pick, get cason, with third get johnson...

then goff with our first 3rd....(if you think he lasts this late)
and then another cb....
in that way we get a very good OLB, and ILB, and an amazing CB and RB....and we still have a 3rd left on day one for whatever BB wants...prob another CB in the later 3rd round

Cason will be gone before that. C.Johnson will be gone before that. We "drafted" our ILB in the 5th rd(Seward).And Dexter Jackson wont last til the bottom of the 4th round....Other than that,lol,and the fact we likely wont draft 1 CB within the first 2 rounds ...never mind both 1st and 2nd....I dont know where some of these ideas come from.
A trade down is reasonable, but I think you will see that we need 3 players(OL,CB,OLB)and we will draft for "fit" and "value" according to our system. As far as value, I would think OLB pass rusher would be highest, OL 2nd and CB 3rd, but that depends on who is available. The most important thing about high draft picks is that you cant have ANY MISSES. Safe picks are usually linemen. Dryheat put it well, there isnt a riskier draft pick in the whole draft than DRC. We just dont take risks with high picks.

A few things. this isn't the first time you've posted this mock.

1) I don't see the Pats drafting BOTH Chris Johnson and Dexter Jackson. There just aren't enough offensive spots. And there is great need at RG and RT than there is at RB.

2) If the signing of Seward goes forward, the Pats won't have a 5th round pick. And its really stupid of you to think that Parcells is going to trade Taylor inside the division. He's not.

3) Gooden is a friggin injury prone ILB. Contrary to YOUR belief. He IS injury prone. And he's not nearly as good as Jonathan Goff.

4) I don't see the Pats drafting corners back to back.

If the Pats took Groves, Cason, (sub in an O-line late in the 2nd), Goff, sub in another CB like Chevis Jackson) Dexter Jackosn and then signed Seward, I think it would be an amazing draft.


See my comments to Briz regarding taking Jackson and Johnson and about the injury prone Gooden.

Also, I don't see the Pats taking 2 ILBs after signing Seward.

What makes you think that the Pats won't draft ONE CB in the 1st two rounds?

1) While I don't agree with Briz on many things, he understands how the Pats draft according to value.

2) Also, I hate to break this to you, but DRC isn't the riskiest pick in the draft. That titles goes to Darren McFadden.

3) The Pats took a risk with Ben Watson. They also took a risk with Vince Wilfork because he had never played NT. Then there is Bethel Johnson who the Pats took a risk on. And one could even say they took a risk on Chad Jackson since there were some mutterings about his ability to learn plays fast. I would hardly say that the Pats don't take risks with their top picks. They do. But they are calculated. Some have worked out. Others haven't.

i for one hope we DO NOT trade an early third rounder for J Taylor. Value is found by finding youngsters who will play above their draft selection point. keep the pick , It would be cheaper than J Taylor. We have other needs than a 35 yearold.

Matter of relativity. I think McFadden is a safer pick at #7 than DRC. Although from a purely New England standpoint, I doubt the Patriots would be interested in McFadden.

Cedric Benson, KiJana Carter, JJ Arrington, Eric Shelton, Tony Hollings, Ron Dayne, Trung Candidate, Curtis Enis, etc, etc, all say HI.

ALL players are risky picks. RBs with chicken legs like McFadden, tend to get leg injuries that derail their careers. If you think that's not a risk, then we just have different definitions of risk.

EDIT:

I also believe that McFadden will not be the kind of RB who can "strap a team on his back" and carry them. Reggie Bush failed to do that after McAllister went down. And Bush was expected to be able to do that.
