Way to downplay losing a top flight cornerback.

yea, I was thinking the same thing. The mroe I think about it, the more its clear that the patriots havent really lost jack poopie. Moss was a worry, but now that he is back, its a lock once again. We got more signings, trades and the draft.

Its always funny to watch people try to convince them selves each year that the patriots are getting weaker.

Re: the jets fans are funny.

Tell me that when he plays a year without BB coaching him.

word. I can never forgive him for dropping that INT.

You're telling me your not going to miss him at all? That as of right now you don't have a void in your secondary? Good CBs don't grow on trees.

I wont miss him, thats for dam sure. good cbs make game ending INTs durring the biggest game of their life.

Re: the jets fans are funny.

Wow... that's harsh, lol.

He-who-shall-not-be-named joins Chuck Shonta on my hated list. Back in the 60s in a game at Fenway Park, safety Shonta had a sure INT bounce off his chest and sail over his head into a Bronco's hands for the winning TD. Irrationally I'll admit, I hated 'Native Americans' for years after that debacle.

And you guys call my fan base delusional. Im pretty sure you wont miss Samuel at all, and that seconbdary which had issues at time stopping the pass will be great w/ Hobbs and Webster as of now:rolleyes:

I read a line in the Providence Journal on sat which puts the lose of these players in perspective: Name one player the Patriots lost or released since their championship run that has gone on to surpass what they did with the Pats? Think hard, nobody, not one. I won't start worrying unless Brady takes up skydiving or there is actually a tape in Walsh's possesion.

Name me one player the Pats let go in their prime who was top ten and arguably top five at their position? They let go an aging Willie McGinest, aging Ty Law, aging Lawyer Milloy, Deion Branch who was fragile and never caught for 1,000 yds w/ Brady. Unless Im forgetting someone none of those players compare to Samuel right now when they left the pats

Samuel is a good CB, but not the top tier one he is made out to be. He tends to jump routes all the time to go for the INT, which when he gets it, he makes the highlight reel, but when he doesn't he gets burned. He's not the spectacular CB that his contract indicates, and it certainly wouldn't have made sense for the Pats to keep him, but FA is still young and we have good draft position so I think at worst we'll end up with someone who's not quite as good as Assante but who costs a fraction of the price. In short: he will be missed, but not very much.

I will agree to disagree Wildo. I dont know how Samuel is not a top ten corner and how it would not have made sense for the Pats to keep him. Unless you guys are going corner rd 1 which I doubt, your going to have a JAG FA CB (Pretty much all the FA CB's left are average at best, Ty Law headlines the corners available and that says a lot) or a rookie from rd 2 or later start in place of Samuel. To me thats a big drop off

I didn't say "top ten" I said "top tier," the difference being that with the rules the way they are today I think there's only about 3 or 4 guys in the league who are good enough CBs that they make a huge impact on the game. Beyond that, I think there's a whole slew of good CBs that Samuel is at the top of the list of, but who also contain slightly less expensive options that aren't such a huge drop off. It's all about the pass rush now anyway.

I would agree with everything you were saying if there was an apparent option the Pats could turn to for another dependable CB but where are they going to turn at this point for a corner? Maybe Lito Sheppard (who is Samuel with injury issues IMO)? Rodgers-Cromartie rd 1 ( I think he will be great but he still is a rookie)? Plz no one say Ty Law, he is a below average CB at this point in his career.

Many think Merriweather is capable, he played in college. And if the Pats trade down their #7 they may be able to get Rodgers-Cromartie or perhaps get Sheppard some other way. It's still early...

Maybe you could just pretend that New England went 16-0 last season and that it's only March which gives the team some time to solve any problems, perceived or real?
