Re: OT: Shawne Merriman accuse the Seahawks of cheating

Hasn't Roidboy heard the phrase, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones? It just seems ironic that he of all people would cry wolf.
Although I wouldn't be surprised if it were true, obviously Indy has been getting away with it for years, why shouldn't the Seahawks?
doesn't seem like he's throwing stones, almost looks matter-of-factly , like it's common knowledge lol

Re: OT: Shawne Merriman accuse the Seahawks of cheating

If anyone would know about illegally gaining a competitive advantage, it's Merriman.

But, agreed with primetime. This ritual of, "Team X Did ____, Where's the Outrage?!" threads are lame.
merriman never said implied it was an illegal advantage, he simply stated something , he didn't even say they cheated

Re: OT: Shawne Merriman accuse the Seahawks of cheating

Not everyone agrees with the notion that the Patriots broke the rules.

Well, they did. The disagreement seems to be over how severe the violation was and whether they were punished fairly.

Though I seem to be playing devil's advocate here, I agree with the majority around here that the severity of the violation has been vastly overstated (mostly dealing with camera placement), and also that the punishment was an obscene overreaction.

I also think that despite what I may believe, the Patriots are not getting that pick back, even if they should.

Re: OT: Shawne Merriman accuse the Seahawks of cheating

But why are all of you listening to a crybaby like Merriman?? Is there a bigger complainer in the league? Remember him sacking TN and Fisher says something like"someone get that guy"... What else is a coach to say? What else is a player to do? He doesnt like the fact that players are PAID TO HIT HIM, but its ok if he is paid to hit someone else...If it comes from someone reputable let me know, Merriman has lost all my respect when it comes to listening....I will watch him play, but I wont listen.
how is this complaining? they won the game there lol

he's stating it as if it's fact , which would be the only problem

Re: OT: Shawne Merriman accuse the Seahawks of cheating

_____ accuse _______ of cheating!!!!! ESPN will ignore it!!!! OMFG everyone hates the Patriots!!!

The real victim in Spygate is critical thought.

critical thought ? where does that enter the equation when deciding that taping 8 mins. of the jets equals a first rd. draft pick and being fined $750,000. too bad critical thought wasn't applied then. it's the freaking jets. what was going to be gained from taping those sorry losers ? it's all about ratgina being a vindictive little ****.

I never said it doesn't go both ways.

Critical thought was severely lacking both in the initial reaction to Spygate by the league and the media. It's also severely lacking every time we seize on the tiniest little thing like this and ask why nothing is being done. Shawn Merriman (hardly a bastion of integrity) stating something in an internet chat is just about the perfect example of this. Seizing upon the tiniest tidbits and turning them into imagined slights against the Patriots might not be as bad as the league overreacting to 8 minutes of taping, but it's certainly not level-headed either.

I officially gave up on hoping for critical thinking when the "breaking news" came out that Belichick was taping sidelines back to 2000 and that people were led to believe the practice only took place as far back as 2006 before Specter rode in on his white horse.

So people (including a US Senator) actually believed that Belichick starting sideline taping in 2006 AFTER a memo was distributed warning about the practice?

Seriously...Belichick saw the memo, thought about it and THEN decided it was a good idea to tape opponents' sidelines. It took further investigation to determine the shocking news that Belichick was doing it BEFORE the memo was distributed. I'm waiting for Specter to come out next week with the news that his crack team of investigators determined that the memo was sent out BECAUSE Belichick was already taping.

I think the US educational system needs some oversight. Looking into the qualifications to be a US Senator wouldn't hurt either.

:yeahthat: Very well said. It was commonly accepted around here (and pretty much everywhere) that this practice had been going back at least a little while (at the very minimum, it had to have been occurring when Mangini was on the staff for him to know about it) and yet suddenly it was like a brand new revelation that the Patriots had been doing it a while.

No matter what angle you look at this situation from, it's a veritable shmorgasboard of idiocy.

Re: OT: Shawne Merriman accuse the Seahawks of cheating

As a devoted fan of the Patriots I WILL NEVER LET IT GO! The fines I could give 2 craps about, but taking the 31st pick away and allowing every major news outlet to villify my team as frauds and cheaters can be summed up in one word: UNACCEPTABLE!!

All kinds of shady behaviour goes on in this league. Teams before and teams after us will be disciplined but it will NEVER be on a scale as we've recently seen. Mangini opened Pandora's Box and Goodell bumbled and fumbled it until it became "that smell in the car you can't get rid of".

Spygate has reached the epic porportions of Communist spies, Nazi collaborators and Fundamentalist Muslim terrorists. We must protect America from the Patriots!(talk about oxy-morons)

It's ABSOLUTELY FCUKING RIDICULOUS!!!

Every example of every team's shady and nefarious behaviour should NOT be swept under the rug. It should be pointed out and exposed so we can all roll our collective eyes at the hypocrisy.

This particular trash-talking by Merriman is just speculation by a guy who has his own very real issues with the rules/law -- but the basic underlying point is a good one.

That is, the focus on the Pats' current troubles is hypocritical, when all incidents/evidence are given proportionate weight.

Hence the "Pats Fans for Truth" thread elsewhere on this board.

The product of that thread has changed names to Fans for Responsible and Accurate Media, or FRAMe (sounded a tad more objective.) We are all volunteers and putting in time where we can, working around other obligations.

We are primarily working on presenting the known facts that give the current Pats' story context. If this were more than Merriman *****ing online, in fact, it would be right up our alley.

Question: Is there anyone on this thread that does web development, or for that matter, has the software to do so? We are not looking for anything terribly snazzy, and any updates would not be too extensive. Just a few pages to get up and running, accompanied by downloadable microsoft word documents that pretty much say the same thing.

If anybody knows web apps pretty well, PM me, and get in on the FRAMe effort. It's fine to do this among ourselves, but we're looking to put together a relatively professional presence the media can use to tell the whole story; i.e., we're looking to take the most credible stuff, and get it in front of the opinion-shapers (both local in Boston and national,) so all sides of the story get aired.

Thanks

i still don't see how it's trashtalking, he doesn't even say it's a bad thing

Then how about this talk from the piece of trash:

ESPN Radio, around 10:10 pm EDT, played a soundbite from Merrimoid, in which he said that if he were playing for the NEP and it was discovered that they used illegally-acquired videotape to gain an unfair competitive advantage, he would feel betrayed, embarassed and disrespected. Local dude Ryan Rusillo, "The Pulse" host for the evening, stated that if he were looking for a player's perspective on Cameragate, Shawne Merriman would not be the first player for whom he would look. Bam!

When in Rome I guess...

i disagree about steroidman not being the first player to look to when talking about unfair competitive advantage. he's already betrayed, embarassed and disrespected anybody and everybody he's ever played for or against. he's an expert in the area.
