Re: NFL, Walsh closing in on deal

The NFL can't do anything to protect him if he broke any laws and if he did the Patriots/Kraft/Belichick should make sure he's prosecuted.

Re: NFL, Walsh closing in on deal

this whole thing bothers me.. how is it that an employee of an organization can sign a legally binding contract then the nfl who has no legal power (im guessing) to come in and say dont worry you cant be touched now.. if im the patriots and any deal is made, im taking the nfl to court to overrule it.. he signed a confidentiality agreement with the pats and im sure they made sure it would hold up legally.. so i sue if im the pats to stop it..

Re: NFL, Walsh closing in on deal

I am sure that the Pats aren't going to give up their legal rights to help Goodell. Let the NFL indemnify Walsh, he is going to need it when the Commonwealth goes after him.

The Patriots say there was no confidentiality agreement. Regardless, all the NFL can do is promise to help him financially, or provide lawyers, etc, if he's sued or taken to criminal court. As you say, they can't stop him being prosecuted or sued. Personally I hope he ends up with a really cute boyfriend.

The funny thing about all of this is that NE's FO already claimed Walsh never actually signed a confidentiality agreement. It's pretty laughable that a number of news sources still seemingly overlook that fact...

looking more and more like the pats are going to be the scarifical lamb.

Re: NFL, Walsh closing in on deal

Hate to say it but Walsh is going through allot of trouble for all of this. Even the blindest homer ought to be a bit concerned about what he actually has. I still think what many do that he took a tape from the shared recorder and now has to follow up on this sham of his. he doesn't have to prove anything here ... just follow up on handing stuff over or he will be sued ... in other words, he's going to get sued either way on this issue so he's choosing the path of least reluctance as they say in the electronics world.

Re: NFL, Walsh closing in on deal

Can they find a way to take our pick this draft?
Is that what Specter has up his sleazy sleeve?

Concerned in some ways, but what he most likely has is something he should NOT have..property he stole..Actually I think he does have to have something..and something substantive or he will look foolish. Not sure WHO will sue him if he doesn't do anything..Who can? I don't believe anyone can sue him if he doesn't reveal anything..which I THINK is teh worst for the Pats. That this has taken so long means either he is giving up something or the NFL is..bit sure WHY the NFL will give up anything in negotiations.

they already did take your pick in this draft .....

Re: NFL, Walsh closing in on deal

They are closing in on a deal? Fine with me.

I do have a few questions though. Anyone notice that it's Walsh and ONLY Walsh making claims about having other tapes? Think about it. The Patriots are a large organization. They probably had a lot of people working there over the years. A lot of them probably no longer work for the Pats. How come it's only Walsh making these claims? What about any other former Pats employees coming forward with anything?

And if the Pats are telling the truth about no confidentiality agreement being in place, why need protection? Walsh's lawyer hasn't denied the whole "We don't have a confidentiality agreement with him" claim the Pats lawyers made has he?

And I find it interesting that Specter is the only politician who seems remotely interested in any of this. God this whole thing just reeks.

Re: NFL, Walsh closing in on deal

I agree w/Florio:

http://beta.profootballtalk.com/2008/03/09/deal-coming-between-nfl-walsh/

But what is the truth? Some believe that Walsh has a videotape of the Rams walk-through practice prior to Super Bowl XXXVI. Based on everything we’ve heard, we don’t believe that such a tape exists, and we believe that Walsh’s eventual explanation of any supposed spying at the Super Bowl will be met by many with skepticism.

Still, Spygate II can’t and won’t go away until Walsh is heard.

Re: NFL, Walsh closing in on deal

Might as well get it over with now...

Like Florio said, SpyGate II ends when Walsh gets to speak. I'd love to just have this all over before the draft.

Re: NFL, Walsh closing in on deal

FFS, I just want this to be over with. Just hoping that Walsh turns over whatever inconsequential crap he has, gets nailed with criminal charges, and goes to jail. I'd be pretty happy with that.

Re: NFL, Walsh closing in on deal

I disagree with Florio in that his claims will be met with much skepticism. I think no matter how little evidence he may have and how little anything he claims meets with logic, there will be a segment of the media and most certainly Arlen Specter who will believe him and push this claims even if they are ludicrious through the media. If we have learned anything, this whole process is not to get to the truth. It is all about getting to the juicy story.

ESPN and the New York Times have been shameless on how on-sided they have been covering Spygate. Do you think Matt Walsh's credibilty will get in their way to smear the Patriots if he claims to have taped the walkthough even if he doesn't have a shread of evidence?
