Gholston: 42" VJ at OSU pro day

It seems like you should add .1 to everyone's 40 times at their pro days. Gholston ran a 4.67 at the combine, a 4.58 at the pro day. Larry Grant ran a 4.71 at the combine, a 4.60 at the pro day. Tavares Gooden ran a 4.65 at the combine, a 4.53 at the pro day. Something about those pro day 40 times...

266 lbs, jumped 42"

The VJ at that weight impresses me more than any other numbers.

IMo Gholston will not be available at #7 anymore.
It's not a given YET. Even though it pains me to suggest this, I think it makes sense to scour the NY fanbase to find out if the Jets seem to have any SERIOUS interest in Gholston.

yup even if he were to fall through the top 5 the jets would take him in a heartbeat and prevent him from goin to the Pats.

my thoughts exactly. They can kill two birds with one stone. I was under this same impression last year when we had the pick ahead of them and they freaked out and traded up to 15 for Revis (somewhat of a reach).

Why? They have Pace now at OLB. IMO, they have other pressing needs. Namely helping noodle arm out. Thomas Jones is good. McFadden would be way better. No team, currently, in the top 5 will draft McFadden. The Jets defense is starting to shape up and be somewhat decent.

Don't think that was a reach for Revis. Revis is as good as any young cb in the NFL. I wish the Pats had moved up for him. In the end we wasted all those second day picks.

Sheesh, what a freak. He'll be gone for sure... the Jets would take him even after signing Pace.

Why? cause you can never have too many good lbs in a lb driven system such as the 34, plus im sure mangina wouldnt mind stickin it to the Pats.

I don't know about that. There are many ways in which the draft could unfold. It all depends on the teams type of scouting, and its ability to pick out the right players for the right positions. Combine number mean very little, they have produced work-out warrior and some great players, ala "Lucky" Tebucky Jones. For every high profile kid coming out of college, there is some massive NFL comparison. But in real life every player must be himself and not someone else in order to truly become a great player.

Gholston could easily be there at #7. Other teams are not gonna take a player simply to stomp us, they are gonna take the best player they think can fit their scheme. There are many good mock drafts that have payed out that situation. I think the Jets would take MacFadden, since their QB ain't scarring noone. And they did just spend all that money to shore up the left side of o-line.

Personally I would be thrilled if we drafted him. I just hope we don't trade down.

Based on their off-season moves, I think the Jets are going to look to draft players who can make an immediate impact. Gholston could contribute as a 3rd down pass rushing specialist in his rookie season, but I think it will take some time for him to develop as an OLB.

I think McFadden is the more likely pick for the Jets as he has the potential to greatly improve their running game.

The Jets have been improving their offensive line AND signed Tony Richardson (blocked for AP last year)....I think McFadden is the likely choice.

Guess it's safe to say that the Jets phone will be ringing if he's still there at #7.

I don't get that. They're at least 3 years away from even competing. Mangini/Tannenbaum are idiots if they rush things too much and just spend, spend, spend.

I think the point is that M/T will likely be gone 12 months from now if they have, say, a 5-11 season.

That said, Gholston could give them immediate impact for sure. Him and Pace off the edge with Harris/whoever in the middle is to be envied. Now, however, the Browns showed last year that money on LB without a good DL in front can be wasted.

Gholston will still be there at #7, I think. I'm still concerned about his ability to transition to OLB and the fact that he played in the Big-10 though, but as of right now he's moving into my #1 slot (which for me is bizarre considering the fact that I'm EXTREMELY wary of Big-10 prospects, especially from OSU, and I like Quentin Groves alot).

People keep talking about the jets taking a player(Gholston) or whoever before he reaches us or to keep that player from us. I'm just as nervous about THEM Trading back with someone like everyone wants us to do. Gholston's numbers have been great and i've wanted him before the combine, but now it does look likely that a LOT of teams will have major interest. Perhaps we trade UP to KC's spot?(If Gholston is still there).

Some teams picking ahead of us may see him as a 4-3 end. Gholston himself has said that's his preferred position. Don't be so quick to stereotype prospects.

You mean wary of guys like;

Tom Brady
Drew Brees
Bob Sanders
Larry Johnson
Orlando Pace
Braylon Edwards
Joe Thomas
Eric Steinbach
Kris Dielman
Charles Woodson
Marlin Jackson
Marion Barber III
Plaxico Burress
Chris Chambers
Steve Hutchinson
Jon Runyan
Nate Clements
Donte Whitner
Will Smith
Julian Peterson
Tamba Hali
A.Ogunleye
Aaron Campman
AJ Hawk
Luis Castillo
Matt Light
Mike Vrabel
Nick Mangold
Lee Evans
Santonio Holmes
Larry Foote
Shaun Phillips
Rosie Colvin
Flozell Adams
Kareem McKenzie
Jon Jansen
A. Winfield
J. Galloway

IF Gholston is truly a blue chip player in the eyes of the Patriots,

they should trade their #1 and the Oakland #3 to K.C. to get him.

He might be the cornerstone of a revamped defense. Mike

Vrabel could continue tutoring him.

Have you been paying attention to what they've done so far this off season?
