Great find. Looks like Beau Bell has no problem droping back in coverage. Half those highlights are interceptions. He has the size. I think im sold

Beau Bell measured in just under 6'2 at 244 lbs. Oddly enough he didn't run a 40. However if he can cover as well as those clips suggest, that would more than justify a 3rd round pick. I'm going to guess that he would run between a 4.6-4.7. We'll see on his pro day.

What's the word on Jerod Mayo though? He's 6'1, weighed in at 242 and ran a 4.56 40!

Of course, Beau Bell was injured at the Senior Bowl and did not run or participate in drills at the combine.

As for the vids, I was mostly impressed by Flowers of the corners (much to my dismay). I didn't think the clips really showed us too much of their coverage abilities. T

here was one useful clip of Smith covering Sweed (I think) on a fly. He really backpedalled quite a long way with Sweed before making the turn, which I was impressed with. The turn itself, was a bit clumsy.

Man oh man, Gholston is a beast!!!! The guy has the quick move, the power move and a non-stop motor. Please oh please let him drop to number 7!!!!!!

In my personal opinion, he's going to develop into a better NFL CB than Asante Samuel. All the evidence is there for those who take the time needed to fully evaluate him.

The Pats haven't had a true coverage linebacker since Phifer. And that was a long time ago. Arguably Bruschi had that ability to make plays vs the passing game, in his prime, but no longer.

The following comments have me leery of Beau Bell:

"Though he's explosive in a straight line, Bell struggled changing directions, meaning he is strictly a two down run defender at the next level, and thus, likely a middle round selection."

"Even before his injury, Bell looked very stiff and unable to change directions. It's tough for teams to use a top 100 selection on a straight-ahead linebacker with minimal lower body strength."

So who is the real Beau Bell? Are they making those comments post injury, or is it really true that he can't cover even when healthy? The clips seem to contradict the observations.

As you can see from the video, Cason played a lot of man to man coverage and we are a soft zone defense. I am not sure how BB will project Cason in our defense.
On one of those highlight reels, I was really impressed how Cason stayed home on the reverse and made the tackle. Very nice.

Next season I am going to praying that BB takes Cushing of USC as the eventual replacement for Vrabel. I really like Cushing's game. (provided Cushing runs well.)

Marcus Howard's vid is a reminder of what an monster that guy is. He plays with the violence needed to be truly great. At 6'1'' 240 lbs, I don't really care what position he plays. Just draft him and figure it out later. Use him like the Ravens started using Antwan Barnes last season, as a sit pass rusher, and transition him inside. He is a frightening human being. If you combined Howard's bloodlust with Gholston's body you'd have the greatest D player of all time. If the Pats announced they were selecting him in rd 2, I wouldn't be upset at all. Wow.

Cason played both zone and man-to-man in college. His being able to play in both coverages, and route reading ability is considered a strength. Also, NE's used some form of zone coverage for a long time, but those soft zones only become so prominent at about the same time Asante Samuel became a full time starter. In other words, I wouldn't bank on their using that specific coverage scheme as much this year, and I actually hope they go back to a more physical version of coverage, but we'll see. Also, I like the idea of having a CB who's more than capable of playing on an island, and holding his own.

Check out Curtis Lofton, and reggie smiths video's on rivals (I'd post a link but I'm not allowed to yet)

Lofton had 156 tackles last year and was big 12 defensive player of the year. Might be a nice ILB if we trade way down in the first round, or up early 2nd.

Reggie Smith seems to be just what BB likes. He is versatile, he is always around the ball and is a heck of a tackler. Great size too for a CB. Reggie should also be a late first early second rounder.

Some of those plays should also indicate why NFLDraftScout calls him the best pass rusher, and backfield penetrator in the 2008 NFL Draft.

cason is arguably the best zone CB in the draft. thats the least of the worries. the worries were his long speed and he did alright with a 4.48 or whatever he ran

Wow, my first highlight reel I've seen and I'm amazed. The guy is freaky fast. He runs down RBs and QBs like nothing in the SEC. You see the guy is just every where the ball carrier is in a second in every clip. I wouldn't mind that kind of speed in our front 7 at all.
