31 years old, he can fit in our defense, he has experience with it and he would be willing to play for a reasonable salary. He said on Sirius radio he'd be able to play well in a 34.

I'm sorry if there are tons of threads on this, but I WANT HIM. Please?

Crap, it's 4:30?!?!?!?!....maybe we should get some sleep....:bricks:

i still remember those chubby cheeks flapping to the end zone the year we lost milloy

he might be a good addition...BUT..a what price?? THAT is the big question..

Yup. I think people remember him strikingly because he seemed to always play well against the Patriots during his tenure in Buffalo.

The next contract he signs will probably be his last "big payday", so I doubt he'd come relatively cheap considering he's still seen as an impact player. Give that, I'd probably let someone else take the risk. That said, if the money's right than I am on board.

He was a monster when he played for the Bengals. He's still a monster today - just not as frightening as he was then. I still want him on this team, though. The guy is a pure tackling machine.

If I remember correctly, he does have a history of having injuries for those 3 yrs

He damaged his achilles tendon, which I'm told takes 2 years to heal completely

well at least the patriots front office reads the patsfans.com messageboard for suggestions.

oh no wait they dont thank god.

Former Broncos MLB Al Wilson's agent claims he is ready for full contact and has no major risk of injury playing football. He was cut prior to last season, and spent the whole time rehabbing.

Could Al Wilson be a possibility if we don't fill the spot elsewhere? He is 29, and had 108 tackles in '06.

Wilson was a tackling machine in Denver. But how big is he and how would he fit into a 3-4 scheme?

He is about 6' 240 with great speed. In a 3-4 scheme, I would envision him as one of the MLBs. He can definitely roam, and his one concern was can he shed blockers? With Big Vince, Richard and Ty up front, you'd have to think he could make some plays.

The last time he was on the field, he was still a playmaker. I hope our front office takes a look at him, if Wilson just wants to get back on the field regardless of $$$.

Hell, let's grab them both.

Read today at reason no-one is grabbing Spikes is due to his price-tag which he is refusing to budge on.

Will he go the Moss route and take a deal for less money and a real shot at a SuperBowl ring, or is he likely to do a Ty Law and head for greener pastures (and yes, the pun was intended)

Spikes seems like one of those players who would struggle to learn this defense.

Based on what?

I know the general assessment hereabouts is that the guy in the old Ted Johnson position - the run stuff guy - is just "whoever's left" who isn't the outside guy and isn't a coverage capable linebacker. I think you need a guy who can play as a run stuffer, but also offers more. I also think Spikes, if anything, is "over qualified" for that duty. Tell me all about how a perenniel 100 tackle guy has been "slowly declining" because he's not a 150 tackle guy... he could still bring a LOT to this D, especially if we're thinking of using him as a plug for the middle, and especially if we think the fifth decade of life (the 40s for you non math-inclined guys) is not a lock for a good time to play football (cough Seau cough.) I would also like to add that if you read the parenthetical above out loud, it sounds like a visit to a proctologist. Last time I saw a proctologist he wrote me a prescription using a rectal thermometer. Claimed some a s s hole stole his pen.

But I digress. Yeah, sign him if the price is right and he wants a ring. No-brainer.

Bills fan here--it all depends on which Takeo you'd get. He was great (and I mean Pro Bowl-style great) for us his first two years in Buffalo. One of the rare free agent acquisitions that actually seems to work as planned. He then tore his ACL in 2005 and when he came back in 2006 was a shell of his former self. He seemed to be tentative on his bad leg all season and was a couple of steps slower in getting to a play. I saw him a good bit this past year with the Eagles and he didn't look like anywhere near a worldbeater then, either. Look at his stats this year and you'll see that other than a decent number of tackles (but still low for him in his prime), he really didn't have many of his trademark difference-making plays (sacks, FF, Ints, etc.).

Although I wasn't a proponent of cutting him at the time (I wanted to give him another year to see how his recovery had come along), with hindsight I think the Bills made the right move in trading him, as he was not worth anywhere near the salary he'd have been paid and at least we got something for him on his way out the door (Darwin Walker, who sat out until we traded him to Chicago for a 5th we used to pick up Stroud--BTW, Walker also got cut earlier this year, so no loss there either).

All this is too bad, as he had a great attitude and was always a real competitor. File it under the "the spirit is willing ,but the injury-ravaged flesh is weak".....

I think at 12:01 PM on monday everyone should open their windows and yell as loud at they can, "let's get takeo spikes". Sure the Foxboro braintrust will respond.
