Re: CB Lewis Sanders signed.

Hobbs is our stud CB...I repeat...Hobbs is our stud CB....doooooooooooom

Hobbs' stats last year (thrown at %, comp. %, etc) were quite similar to Asante's, it's just that teams threw at Hobbs more.

As I said... lets bring back Starks and Mooreland. We'll have teams shuddering at Gillette Stadium (although it probably will be the cold)

???

No faith in the coaching staff? Are you assesing the situation correctly?

I think the Capers connection should be a good sign. Question is, is this more of a case of it was a simple Capers recommendation, or are they potentially looking for guys who are more suited to a new Capers-influenced secondary scheme?

Comment: Sanders has bounced around the league as a part time starter, but primarily a backup corner. He has the size, speed and quickness to play corner in the league. The issue is he can generally be in position to break up a pass but the ball tends to get through for a completion. He lacks great awareness, vision and ball skills once the ball is in the air. He is best suited for the nickel package when he can line up with the opponent's big wide receiver that is not quite as quick and nifty as the slot receivers usually are. With his size and strength he can be effective once he gets his hands on the receiver to re-route them. He is a little tight in the hips and struggles in transition. He works best when he can line up tight and run with receivers from a trail alignment. While he is willing in run support, he does not play big and is not the most sure tackler.

Re: CB Lewis Sanders signed.

Hobbs is a baller and I love him on our team. Maybe he's not the insane ball-hawk Asante is, but as many times as I saw Asante whiff on an INT and give up a pass over the past season, is that really a bad thing?

Hobbs gave us some great tackles, a few crucial INTs, and while he talks a little more than most, is an ideal Patriots in terms of love for the game and work ethic. I'll never understand the hatred for him sometimes, especially when he's done such a great job covering HoF receivers in the past, and been burned with completely wrong DPI calls that he's gotten apology letters from the league over.

Sounds good. Again, I hope he performs.

Hobbs has gotten absolutely raped by stupid pass interference calls whenhe generally just had very good coverage on the receiver. I think he is a very good man player. In zone, he leaves a little something to desire. Most people chose to ignore that fact, however. The guy covers the Reggie Waynes while Samuel's man has gotten open.

Seriously.

Peyton really exposed himself at the end of that Chargers game, when you could tell he was just throwing the ball up and praying for a DPI call that never came. I hate that kind of play.

I must admit, much to my chagrin, that I had never heard of this guy...

He's the big corner in the toolbox. You can bet we missed having someone in that role when Chad Scott went down.

We're going to fill with a bunch of role players then hit for the complete corners in the draft (I hope).

No, he's assessing the situation comedy.

Like Mike Vrabel, Tyrone Poole, or Roman Phifer.

Sanders has had some injuries in the past which have slowed his development. He is a nickel/dime CB and ST's player, nothing more. He does have good size going for him and he is a good athlete. He is football savy and can quickly diagnose plays. His physicality with the bump and run is probably his best skill. He seems a little stiff and kind of looks like a S playing corner sometimes but has good enough speed for deep coverage once he gets going and he can make plays on the ball.

Re: CB Lewis Sanders signed.

some height!! yay!!

In all seriousness, It really sucks that we lost that first round pick. We could have possibly picked up Gholston (or someone similar) AND a stud CB. Well, the draft is deep in CBs, so we should be able to pick up a decent one. But still....what could have been....
get over it dude time to move on get ahobby

Re: CB Lewis Sanders signed.

Are we doing this to muscle up Brandon Merriweather into thinking he's no gimmee for week 1 at corner?

Who says he is even being thought about as a corner?
