I cant wait for the season, especially for the first Monday Night Game... we'll see if ESPN is even granted field access for that pre game gossip stuff that Palantonio does. The Patriots should just speak exclusively to Jimmy Johnson.

The broadcasting team will have access to the teams playing in the game. If
it's ESPN the Pats will have to talk to them.

This is much bigger than some realize. The whole Comcast vs the Pats/NFLNetwork obscures maybe a bigger issue, ESPN vs the NFL Network. The NFL Network is trying to leverage its product to create a legit cable rival to ESPN. If the NFLNetwork is successful it will be a huge blow to ESPN's position in the industry. I believe much of Comcast's "problem" with the NFLNetwork is really cover for ESPN. ESPN has a longstanding relationship with these cable companies and is the #1 money maker on cable. Robert Kraft is the head of the television committee, and with Jerry Jones is guiding the process for the NFLNetwork. Robert Kraft and the NFL screwed ESPN on the Monday Night football package, plain and simple, making them pay above and beyond what all the other networks pay for games, and not giving them any playoff games. The NFL draft has been coopted by NFLNetwork, whereas once it was ESPN's province. This competition has got to be rankling everybody from the suits on down at ESPN, and our owner sits on one side of that table.

whoa. great insight.

if you think about it from a "Competitive Strategy" perspective, the internet has driven sports coverage towards ever increasing focus and specialization. There are excellent blogs and sites specific to individual sports (Pro Football Outsiders) and even to individual teams and players ("All Things Bill Belichick"). ESPN and SI are bucking that trend, trying to maintain their status as "All Things to all Sports." The NFL Network is riding the specialization wave.

Ever since the advent of Cable in the late 70's, the trend has been away from "Networks" and towards focused delivery vehicles (CNN, MSNBC, The Entertainment Channel, Showtime, Lifestyle, etc., etc.). At the beginning, ESPN was part of that focus. Now, however, it's trying to maintain its preeminence in the face of specialized threats, in this case, aka, The NFL Network.

Of course they hate them.

Belichick never gives any information to the media, He lies to them all the time, and his press conferences are about as exciting as a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

He makes their jobs harder and acts extremely smug about it.

Here's a better question...Why would they like him?

How is he "smug" about it?

Wow, you can read everyone's thoughts. You must be God or Karnac The Magnificent.

And Bill Parcells is the beacon of truth?

I love Bill's pressers. I love how so many people say "oh he gives ****ty press conferences" or "the guy doesn't have a funny bone in his body" because they've seen a few snippets on ESPN.

Ask him a good question, and you'll get a good answer.

And the dude is ******* hilarious.

i really can't stand ESPN. hucksters.

He doesn't lie to them; he just doesn't answer their questions.

Why should he? So they love him? His job is to win football games. Sorry if the media has to work harder, but that's just the way it is.

As long as my BC Basketball and Football are on ESPN I'll have to keep coming back, but hopefully I will have NFL Network by April so I won't have to give the World Wide Loser my ratings.

The tuna hates to put out info too... But he's hilarious with the media. He'll go on crazy rants and give great sound bites...Basically he sets the reporters up for a story. "you won't believe what the tuna said, film at 11...."

The only person that is more boring than BB is Andy Reid...

Neither... I am The Flying Spaghetti Monster...Tremble before my noodly might!

Without the media he wouldn't be making money coaching football games. When you speak to the media you speak to your fans.

He'd prolly be working at a rumpled sweatshirt factory...

I guess I prefer "boring, sarcastic, and honest" to "a good show of lies."

To each their own.

He'd what???

Sorry, you do not need the media to coach a football game. Do you really think you do??? NOT.

The Pats have been attacked from all angles with the fools from the media.

I love every second of this if it is true. We have been attacked. Time for some retribution.

The Pats play football. Pure and simple. The media are to report on the games.

This is all out of control.

I don't know how many of you think of this. Spector and Walsh right before the SB. Me, if I was the Pats FO, the media can take a hike.

Kick back and kick hard. Maybe the nonsense will stop.

Honesty? who in the hell are you talking about?

Not revealing the truth is not dishonest.

Belichick is very clear about what he will not tell you, yet will speak with incredible insight and honesty into what he will talk about.

Parcells will lie to your face with great gusto and no qualms.

TUNA LIES ALL DAY LONG! but the media loves him cause he has crazy press conferences.
They love him because he blows smoke up their asses. Maybe someone from TX can tell us if the media there adored him like the northeast media does.
If anything I would say the Tuna treats them worse than BB does. But Tuna is allways good for a catchy phrase or soundbite (most of witch have no informational value but the do sound cool and they stir up discussion and controversy) The media loves this because in most cases they are lazy and don't want to actually do work in order to do their job (Hey lets go to a 15 minute press conference, get a couple of soundbites whip up a TV segment or a column about it and hit the golf links or make TV/radio aperances and make extra money. They spend more time doing their side gigs than theyr "day' job). Of course they love it. If they want to work 2 hour days there is nothing better. Try doing that at your job.
