It seems that Colvin and K. Brady were both released because they failed their physicals.

NFLDraftScout.com said:
TE Kyle Brady (released/failed physical).

LB Rosevelt Colvin (released/failed physical).

It would be great if SMY or Chris Price or some other insider could verify that for people.

I read about Colvins failed physical at Patriots Insiders but I didn't want to put that out there without proof. I doubt highly that the Pats want this info out there either. Since Reiss et al didn't say anything I just thought that it was a bad rumor. Did you read about this somewhere?

are you going to pass a physical with a busted foot???

DefenseRules - I provided my source for the information. It was from NFLDraftScout.com. They have it under the Team Needs/ Off-season strategy section for the Patriots.

Mr. Bigglesworth - You'll have to go ask the Patriots medical staff that question. I couldn't begin to tell you.

Also, Colvin had made statements mentioning that his foot was fine and that he would be ready for TC. I am sure that there is more to the physical than whether or not his foot is fine from an injury sustained while working for the Patriots.

Pro Football Weekly's Transactions are the "official" NFL transactions and definitely the best source, although it can take a day or two for them to be updated:

http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFL+Zone/Transactions/default.htm?mode=afceast

They also have Colvin, K. Brady, and Lua failing physicals.

ProFW is 100% reliable here - they usually report the waived/injured details and such that can only come from the NFL and that no other reporters, even the beat reports, get.

So it's 100% safe to say that the official designation the Patriots put on Colvin, Lua, and K. Brady for their releases is "Failed Physical." ProFW doesn't speculate in this regard - it's 100% solid info from the NFL.

I'd say their releases still had a lot more to do with production vs salary than the failing of the physicals. It is likely a technical thing the Pats have to disclose. There are plenty of guys who couldn't pass physicals this time of year that the Pats haven't cut. Chad Jackson and Richard Seymour would have failed physicals last year at this time for example.

By the way, I know for a fact (the NFL Draft Scout webmaster is a friend of mine) that NFL Draft Scout/Sports Xchange (Frank Cooney's, the lone Favre MVP voter, company) uses ProFW's transactions for their news blurbs on players.

it was probably just a convenient excuse to get awat from the high cap number and big risk coming off an injury

If he's healthy, why hasn't he been signed by another team?

I'm sure if he was Shawn Merriman in this situation I think they'd find a way to keep him.

I think he is still damaged goods and will prove himself in July

While people may want to use stuff like this to explain away a move, I have a feeling it's a technicality that may have something to do with that player filing for an injury settlement in the event they are not able to play this season. I don't think it's anything more significant than that. They basically told Rosie he was not in their plans moving forward. He won't be back on a reduced deal. Unlike Ty when he wheeled himself out the door, Rosie said his foot is fine now for normal purposes, he was cleared in that respect weeks ago. He is working on getting it back in athletic condition as he termed it, with the goal to be in professional shape by camp time. He probably doesn't want to entertain offers with caveats like roster bonus language as opposed to signing bonus, so he will likely wait until he feels he can pass anyones pre purchase exam...

Let's face it Rosie was way softer than we initially thought. All that Rosie was actually better than Urlacher talk was B.S. ... Rosie was the Eugene Wilson of the linebackers which sucked for us. Nobody was afraid to run at Rosie ... like getting tackled in flag football is what is was and it sucked.

Why is it that people think that its "explaining away a move"? Its NOT. The fact is that we FANS don't know anything about the WHY of Rosie and Kyle being cut and this could be one VERY REAL possibility. People who dismiss it as "explaining a move away" need to take a step back and stop looking for hidden meanings in everything.

Also, this garbage about Rosie being soft is laughable and makes me wonder whether people watched the Patriots over the last 4 years.

I agree Colvin is not soft.

If these guys were not injured they would of been signed by the Jets by now, nuff said.

That's ridiculous. If he wasn't soft, why did he seem to get injured every other year or so? You'd have to be a pretty big pansy to get injured playing pro football.

Weird, wasnt it just 2006 where he was considered by alot of people our best defensive player that year and he finally came along after that terrible hip injury?

In the end, I bet the Pats get an opertunity to match a deal that is offered or makes a good offer.

At first I thought he was cut because the cap, which still holds true, but I thought it was because Rosie refused to re do his deal, that charity event last week where he said what do you do when they all of a sudden tell you your not worth the money your getting. (that was paraphrasing)

but I think I read that he was cut before they even talked about re doing the deal, that is kind of a shock.

I think he will give the Pats any opertunity to take him back, and I hope so cause I think he is still a good player.

lol @ this! Too true!

Rosie wasn't the greatest run stopper in the world but I wouldn't call him soft AT ALL.

Bottom line, he was healthy only 2/4 years here and he didnt play in a super bowl. Bruschi has played in 5(!!), and plays for small $$. Its not a coincidence, its a business, and he hasnt been worth the $$ half the time...what makes you think he will be worth $7.5M on the cap after being injured again? Why take the chance?? Maybe he passes the physical and comes back for Bruschi $$..
