Regular season in 07

If you look at these stats, you can see Pat didn't perform well in post season. Hopefully, we will play better in 08 post season.

Players playing with injuries. Loss of Colvin.

Loss of Neil and Gay early in SB. (I think it was those two).

:(

Re: Why is Pats's regular season better than post season.?

It really started after the half way mark of the season.
Up to than, the Pats had been blowing the doors off opponents.
Than, starting with that Philly game, suddenly everybody was playing the pats real tough.
That was about the time that the media started whining, pissing and moaning about the Pats running up scores.
Suddenly all the teams put a very high focus on stopping the Pats.

I don't know, exactly, what happened to the team at that point but there sure was a lot of ticky tack stuff called on us while the opponents were getting away with stuff like arms around the waist well beyond the 5 yard requirement. Not much was said about the blatant foul that Burris did on Hobbs in the SB. He actually grabbed him by the facemask and shoved him away before the ball got there for an easy catch. Play by play guys said nothing about it.
But they were sure to mention it anytime they thought Randy got away with a pushed off. You know, where Randy kind of motions his hands toward the db like he was pushing off but contact isn't even there(I think this is just a bad habit on Randy's part) JfChrist, Randy did nothing to impede the dbs ability to defend with his supposed transgression.

So yeah. I blame the refs.:D:bricks:

Re: Why is Pats's regular season better than post season.?

The Patriots became THE story of the NFL.

Every team was concerned with a very short list of things:
1. Make the playoffs
2. Win the Super Bowl
3. Beat the Patriots

Each week, as injuries mounted and game tapes were released, other teams got more of an idea as to how to use their personnel to give our offense problems, and how to focus on the weaknesses of our defense.

In the NFL, it's inevitable that a team is going to lose at some point. The best teams just don't win every time because on paper it looks like they should.

IMO, the Patriots regular season was not really "better" than the postseason. 26 for 28 happened in the playoffs. So did a nearly 10 minute drive to shut down the Chargers. Brady led the team down the field in the Super Bowl with 3 minutes left for the go-ahead TD.

In a million alternate universes, the Patriots are 19-0 and only had a few minor hiccups on the way there.

In this one, they're 18-1 and had a "poor postseason" in which they "fell apart."

The difference between these universes feels much smaller than it should.

Over time things balance out.

by this I mean you are using a 16 game regular season and comparing it to 3 playoff games. If we played 16 playoff games I imagine the numbers would be much more even.

This all may very well be true but i still like my ref theory.:snob:

Re: Why is Pats's regular season better than post season.?

Well, first of all, it was Toomer who pushed Hobbs off by the facemask, not Burress.

Second of all, the refs called nearly the entire game hands-off, which I personally prefer, as a fan of football.

Third of all, considering that the Patriots have often abused the tendencies of certain refs in the past, in playoff games and in previous Super Bowls that they've won, is it really smart to complain that the refs threw away the perfect season for us?

If they're O-line sucks in one game and they lose, there's another game next week. (except for the last game of the season, of course).

What's in the past is in the past.
I still say the reffing was lopsided since the middle of the season..
It's my right as a fan, d%#*!@t.

Also, the fact that it was Toomer and not Burress does not lesson the transgression.

Re: Why is Pats's regular season better than post season.?

It's your right as a fan to be as stupid as you want to be, I agree.

I mean, you really believe the reffing was lopsided since the middle of the season?

After:

1. The Eagles game where Jabar Gaffney's TD wasn't even reviewed (we all know he was in, but plays like that are often reviewed and sometimes even overturned by idiot refs).

2. The refs correctly ruled a pushout on Stallworth in the Indy game, a call that we deserved, but considering the reffing in the rest of the game, could have possibly gone the other way.

3. The Baltimore game. Period.

4. The Giants game where a ticky-tacky illegal contact was called on the Giants on a 4th-down play, extending a failed drive that ultimately ended in points instead of a punt.

Seriously, is this really the argument you want to make?

Admittedly, it's more a function of loyalty than intelligence. Try some?

BFD. From what I've read on these boards, the Eagles and every other team the Pats faced after, were getting away with more mugging on our receivers than can be observed from the telecasts.

2. The refs correctly ruled a pushout on Stallworth in the Indy game, a call that we deserved, but considering the reffing in the rest of the game, could have possibly gone the other way.

Again, whoopdy doo. They give you one cookie and then they take 2

3. The Baltimore game. Period.

Do you know why the Ravens were so pissed about the officiating that game? Because they say they were playing that way the whole game and thought they should be able to do it to the end of the game.
(You might want to read this again because sometimes my diction isn't too good.)

4. The Giants game where a ticky-tacky illegal contact was called on the Giants on a 4th-down play, extending a failed drive that ultimately ended in points instead of a punt.

Go and read the Kawiki Mitchell radio interview thread. He says the way to beat the Patriots was "Hit Tom Brady as much as you can,Penalty doesn't matter"
I don't remember any RtP penalties. Don't think there were any. Could have been plenty. Easily.
One of the ESPN analyst (I think it was Jason Whitlock) even advised other teams to hurt Tom Brady, injure him. You would think the refs would take extra care to see that wasn't happening.
Tom took a LOT of late hits at the end of the season with no benefit of penalty.

Seriously, is this really the argument you want to make?

I just did.
