Jason Webster agrees

The Patriots have added another piece in their team-building process today, finalizing a contract agreement with CB Jason Webster, according to a source involved in the negotiations.

Webster flew into town last night and met with team officials this morning at Gillette Stadium. It did not take long to consummate a contract agreement, with Webster canceling a trip to meet with Giants officials in New York.

Webster enters his ninth NFL season in 2008. He projects to compete for time at cornerback, where the Patriots are restocking after losing Asante Samuel and Randall Gay in free agency.

Re: Pats Sign WEBSTER today to compete at CB

At least it's a body.

He's supposed to be a zone corner too... so.

RUMOR: Wikipedia says Jason Webster member of Pats

I know it's Wikipedia, but I was doing some research on Webster and his Wiki bio leads off with:

Jason Richmond Webster (born September 8, 1977 in Houston, Texas) is an American football cornerback who is a member of the New England Patriots.

According to Reiss' mailbag he is in Foxboro today for visit. So what is the buzz? Has this guy been signed and Pats PR guys already made the Wiki edit? Find it hard to believe that a nobody would edit Webster's Wiki bio for a laugh ...

Re: Pats Sign WEBSTER today to compete at CB

well, looks like he out-tackled me in 07

Re: Pats Sign WEBSTER today to compete at CB

i guess the sleeping giant woke up now, its a shame they went to sleep on february the 2nd.......

Re: Pats Sign WEBSTER today to compete at CB

should compete with Richardson for Randall Gay's old spot. And hey, if you get more it's all gravy. Depth is too often over looked.

Re: Pats Sign WEBSTER today to compete at CB

Randall Gay 2.0

Re: Pats Sign WEBSTER today to compete at CB

You might want to specify which Webster was signed, considering there is also a Corey Webster who plays Corner for the Giants.

Seems like a depth move to me, but considering how shallow we are at corner right now, it can't hurt.

Re: Pats Sign WEBSTER today to compete at CB

He should be good depth I think. Probably a much cheaper alternative to Gay.

Looks like BB wanted him too, so I always like that.

Re: Pats Sign WEBSTER today to compete at CB

I don't know much about him. I know he didn't play much the last couple years. Weei is calling him a nickleback on our team. He'll be 31 when the season starts.

Re: RUMOR: Wikipedia says Jason Webster member of Pats

I'm sure this will be rightfully merged, but bears noting for future rumor speculations that this Wiki was updated right before the news broke. Something to keep in mind for future signing rumors.

i.e. Team's PR teams and/or player agents/managers treat Wikipedia as a very serious source of distributing info and update it in a timely manner.

Re: Pats Sign WEBSTER today to compete at CB

Another 5'9" Corner...LOL Somebody who used to post here is gonna have a heart attack.

Looks like he's had some injury issues. I guess he's competing for Gay's vacant nickle slot.

Re: Pats Sign WEBSTER today to compete at CB

Tough to get your hopes up given the team's recent FA track record with middle-of-the-road CBs.

I can't recall the last time a FA CB came in and made any impact with the team. I suppose Chad Scott (?) but tough to say because of the injuries.

BB wanted Duane Starks too...

Re: Pats Sign WEBSTER today to compete at CB

JAG

looks like the Patriots could have the shortest CB tandem in the NFL

When do we stop shopping at Wal Mart and start shopping at Sak's 5th Avenue? Good lord. The Sam Aiken and Jason Webster era has begun ladies and gentlemen. Super Bowl 43 here we come!

Easy there NSA, we are talking about a number 3 or 4 CB and a STer. The draft will net us a good passrusher and a tall CB or two. Pats will be fine.

I'd rather pay what the Pats paid for Webster than what the Saints paid for Gay. Or do you think dollar-for-play the Saints ended up with the better value?
