Re: Fox Sports: Favre to retire

He couldn't have Moss so he knew it was time.

Re: Fox Sports: Favre to retire

Well, now we're gonna have to hear about what a loss for the game this was because the old gun slinmger isn't out there having fun on the field and being a "throwback" and "playing the game right." This'll carry us right through the draft. At least that will hopefully be the end of it.

Re: Fox Sports: Favre to retire

I wish he did it years ago. If Hines ward retires, will Madden kill himself?

He just might, Patjew. He just might...the people at SI have already taken away Peter King's Belt, sheets, and sharp objects.

Re: Fox Sports: Favre to retire

Oh...I think I'll wait to shed my tears until the great one actually says he is retiring. Jay put a few to many but if unlesses in that piece for me to buy it just yet. The mediots who love him and the former QB's society will now start their campaign to talk him back in off the ledge and start talking about fun and possibilities and just how close the Pack is...

Re: Fox Sports: Favre to retire

Mort is on ESPN Radio right now saying that he did speak to Favre's agent and he is definitely retiring. Mort did say that he did think it wasn't a coincidence that he retired the night Moss returned to the Patriots. He didn't say if he got that from the agent, but Mort did indicate that Favre was not happy right now.

Re: Fox Sports: Favre to retire

ESPN just confirmed it with Farve's agent.
Farve "not happy." He can't have Moss, so he's taking his ball and going home.

Mort did say he got confirmation from Favre's agent. According to Mort, Favre has no intention of making a public statement any time in the near future. So you might be waiting a while before you hear it from Favre himself.

I suspect he was probably leaning that way anyways. Sure, he would have liked Randy, but it's not like his passing game was exactly inept last year. I suspect it's more likely he sensed last year was the closest he would get to a Championship and it didn't happen, I'd imagine that could really drain the fire out of a guy. He had a very good season, and is going out before he becomes completely useless, and I respect that. I know many around here aren't the biggest Favre guys, but I've always liked him (beating us in the Super Bowl not included).

Re: Fox Sports: Favre to retire

(Heard over the Ace Hardware loudspeaker) Clean up on aisle 4 we got a fat man down..I repeat fat man down in aisle 4!

Re: Fox Sports: Favre to retire

Seriously Its just a ploy so the baby can get his binky.

Re: Fox Sports: Favre to retire

I like Brett. It's sad to see him go. I was so disappointed we didn't get a chance to play GB in the SB. I wanted the SB rematch that left me devastated as a 10 year old. Oh well. Good luck to Brett.

Re: Fox Sports: Favre to retire

The timing surely smacks of 'tantrum'.
We can discuss Favre's career, legacy, etc later.... I personally think the timing of everything is a bit childish.

I'm not a Packer fan, but I am excited to see Rodgers get a shot.

Re: Fox Sports: Favre to retire

Aaron Rodgers played extremely well in his one game in relief last year. They'll be fine. I've thought Favre was the most overrated player of this or possibly any generation, but it's still sad to see him go. It's even sadder that he couldn't beat the Giants because I think the Packers would've been a laugher in the Super Bowl.

Re: Fox Sports: Favre to retire

if this is true then this is a sad day for football.

He is a football icon.

Sadly, that makes his last pass thrown an interception.

Re: Fox Sports: Favre to retire

could this be a "Junior Seau-esque" retirement?

If it turns out that Moss not signing in Green Bay had anything to do with Favre's retirement, then I totally agree that this was a childish and selfish decision.

You'd have to figure that a guy who's been in the league for so long and has won a lot of football games would be a little above reacting in an inmature way to the workings of his team's front office.

My favorite Favre memory was watching him throw longballs on MNF against Oakland. Even though it was a very hyped game because he had just lost his father, I still thought it was very compelling to watch.

Least favorite moment was probably watching him suck it up in last year's NFC Championship game... hindsight is 20/20 but I felt weird after that game ended, knowing the Giants were headed to the Superbowl with a full head of steam...

Re: Fox Sports: Favre to retire

Sad day for the NFl, but more of a sad day for the Pack, whose their QB now?

Re: Fox Sports: Favre to retire

Nothing against Favre. His retiring just means more Pats talk, which I'm not so sure is a good thing.
