Signing what available FA defensive player would put you at ease going into the draft

As we are all aware of,NE has some major holes on defense to take care of and hopefully 1 or 2 veteran moves BEFORE the draft so that the team is not relying on 2 or 3 rookies out there to take responsibility in thier debut season.

Since most of us probably are not expecting a major blockbuster trade like a Randy Moss or Corey Dillon type move I guess we need 1 or 2 decent veteran FA defensive players at either corner or Linebacker to ease our concerns going into the draft and looking more for depth rather than to immediately fill a starting role.

That being said and with reasonable expectations depending on what a remaining FA player is expected to ask for concerning $$$ and New England able to have the money to do it,What player out there STILL available would ease your mind about the holes that need filled?

I am not sure if DeAngelo Hall is still available and I don't know what his asking price is but he would more than fill Samuel's vacancy at that spot and if he is still out there then thats the guy I want however it has to happen.

Keegs - Is this another of your joking or do you really want a guy out there once again who is getting closer to AARP?

I think Seau was superb for his age the past 2 seasons,but just like the slogan 'Drugs,Just say no' I say that as well for Seau.

Plus the reported surgery on both his shoulders does not help

There really isn't too many veterans worth signing. Do you notice the correlation between the good and bad teams signing free agents? All the bad teams have completely lost their minds while the good teams stay put and wait for the draft to re-stock their rosters. So to answer your question, I really don't know who is worth signing. Maybe Victor Hobson? How about Bryant Johnson if they are unable to sign Gaffney? Ty Law? Clark Haggans? I wouldn't be that excited about a trade for Lito Sheppard because he gets injured a lot and that is something the Pats don't need. In the end, I would sign veterans that aren't looking to break the bank. If that is possible.

Seau did play great for as old as he is. He was one of the guys I really wanted to see win a ring.

There doesn't seem to be much available in FA this year, but I think we have to remember just how good of a team we had last year. Unfortunately, the Super Bowl didn't go our way, but we do not to completely rebuild just yet. I hope we resign Seau and bring back Ty Law. Both may be past their primes, but want to win and know the system. Though unlikely, I wouldn't mind having Colvin back at a discounted price if he can't find a home soon. He was a solid player for us, just hampered by injuries. Add in a LB and a few CBs early in the draft and we are an improved team.

Love to get D. Hall but that is a trade. Also available is Bobby Carpenter of the Cowboys (gave Thomas his number already) He can play ILB and OLB . He has some decent speed and worse case scenario he is signed for two more years I believe. Had an injury and couldn't get back into the starting rotation once he was healed. I think this maybe a Vrabel type deal. He is also a top ST player. He costs us a third but has NFL experience and is 6'3" and 250 lbs (ALL BB prefered) and young. Dallas will move him.

Another possible trade is SS Michael Huff of the Raiders who is being shopped because the Raiders covet multiple choices in this draft. Perhaps a #2 gets him? He's fast and a sure tackler and better than anyone we have now (sorry Rodney) but he and Merriweather would be a great tandem for years. Now add D. Hall and we are a solid young D backfield with playmakers.
The bad news. Huff has a hefty signing deal left from his initial deal (not bad in 2008 though) and Hall would want more money so we aren't just renting him. I do not know the CAP issues with them (Miguel?).

Also the new GM strait from the Pats loves QB Matt Gutierez and they need a young QB desperately. Maybe that plus a reasonable choice gets us a D. Hall.

I'd give up some choices to get these three young players with talent and not gamble on draft hot shots.

We all would like to see Jason Taylor here for a few years if it did not break the bank.

Now that changes the whole defense incredibly with the key word......"IF"!

Hobson, would like Bailey,but he will go to Denver, Ty law for a stop gap corner... And of course Gaffney.. and sign som jag cb's and then lets focus on the draft..


Other , than that it looks like this will be the yr we really focus on the draft, the last yr we did not value the draft..

I would like to see Seau re-up, Haggans, and Law. If Sheppard or Hall were to come in a trade for draft picks, I'd be even happier.

As I see it, we need to add 3 LB's and 3 CB's. I think we can get at least 2 of the CB's in the draft in the 2-4th rounds.

We need corner depth. Im all for bringing Law back for the right contract. Not only could he start, he could help bring along some of the kids we'll undoubtedly be drafting to fill the secondary. As long as the money's right, I see Ty Law re-joining the team as a win-win.

Jason Taylor is an interesting player to consider adding, but I think his asking price in the trade by Parcells (probably atleast a 2nd and 3rd, or in that neighborhood) wont allow this to happen. But acquiring Taylor would allow Thomas to slide back inside. Taylor is a better pass rusher than Thomas. Thomas is a better inside backer right now than either Bruschi or Seau. And it would allow the team to draft Gholston if he's there and not throw him straight into the fire as a starter. Though I think that guy could probably handle it.

Hagans sounds like a player worth looking into, but Id expect he'll want some fairly serious bank.

Is ED REED a FA yet?? Gimmee that guy already. Please.
