PAce is visiting the jets today and if he happens to sign with them, that would probably mean they would be looking elsewhere in the draft, so my question is

Would you rather have the Patriots make a run a Pace who had a good year last year but will require a ton of money or Gholston, who is obviously an unproven commodity who will also get big money at the #7 spot, but is younger and will be locked up for 6 years.

Me personally, I do not trust Pace's year last year, seemed to play for that big contract he will be getting, so I would take the risk of draft Gholston.

What are your thoughts?

Gholston hands down if I had to choose between the 2.

Calvin Pace over his 5 year career was nothing special believe me. He averaged a little under 3 sacks a year and all of a sudden like alot of NFL players do who are playing in contract years, he turned it up a notch and still only managed 6.5 sacks.

If the Jets are foolish enough to overpay for his services, that's totally fine with me.

As I've said before I don't get to see alot of college football but I did watch the combine and Gholston looks a monster as far as athletic ability goes. I'd probrably lean towards developing potential like Gholston.

Well, we have to draft somebody, and given the choices you lay out, I would rather sign a vet CB and draft Gholston than sign Pace and draft a CB at #7.

Even if the Jets sign Pace, there is still a need at OLB. I really think the Jets are either going to take Gholston or Ellis based on their needs. Because the Pats don't need a DT chances are the Jets will take Gholston not only to benefit their team, but also to keep him off the Pats. Causing the Pats to reach for some other player.

Or...trade down from #7 and draft a CB, or...draft Gholston and trade up in round two for that CB.

If used properly as a 3-4 OLB pass rush specialist, I could see Gholston having as many sacks as a rookie as Pace has had in his entire 5 years career (13). Maybe overly optimistic, so we'll go with 10 sacks, which would be as many as Pace has had in the last 4 years combined. You'd be paying a player with greater physical gifts and upside less guaranteed money, have him for 6 years, and be able to develop him from scratch with the best coaching in the world.

If he is available at 7 I think the Pats take Gholston. If he is off the board, I see them trading the pick. The draft is deep at CB, so they could probably pick up a good corner and a LB later in the first round.

I agree with this. Gholston-Bruschi-Thomas-Vrabel is not a bad starting lineup. We can get some serious pressure on the QB and take the pressure off of the DBs.

It's more complicated than simply Pace or Gholston. If in fact taking Pace means they go elsewhere in the draft, which it may, it's more like:

Pace and McFadden: $12 mil
Gholston and re-sign Hobson: $7-8 mil...
(above from the Jets perspective).

Well, Pace has signed with the Jets....so hopefully Gholston is there at 7. Of course, the Jets are in great position to trade the pick to a team that might covet him.

Looking more and more likely that we take Gholston.

All the more reason to have Herm Edwards on stand-by.

Well who is it that you want more? Gholston or DRC? Because you can't get em both.

I think the Pats will get offers at #7 because it looks now like Gholston, McFadden, and Ryan could all be available at that pick. I say trade down to the early teens, pick up an extra pick. The money you save can also be used to sign a decent free agent.

I change my mind constantly each year on what to do, but this year I am focusing more and more on Gholston. Watching SD and Dallas makes me realize that we NEED "our" DeMarcus Ware.

Gholston could come here and apprentice under Vrabel and Thomas and be a terror on passing downs. His presence alone would force teams to pick their poison. Who would you double? Vrabel? Big Sey? Gholston? In turn, that would help the secondary as well.

The way Vrabel speaks of Gholston, and the way BB values Vrabel and his front 7, it seems to be obvious... Gholston will be a Pat.

Imagine on 3rd and long, the Pats are bringing Vrabel, Thomas, Seymour, Green and Gholston and dropping 6 into coverage.

LOOK OUT!!!!!

My wish list would be:

1. Grabbing DRC at #14 on deal down with Chicago (Problem with this is that he won't get past NO at #10)

2. BB saying screw it, and taking DRC at #7 overall (He has shown he'll reach and not care what anyone says, he'll take a guy where he wants to take him, not where Mel Kiper says he should be chosen)

3. Gholston at #7

I think our pass rush will be fine, I just have a feeling that BB will either resign Colvin for the cost of peanuts or do what he has to do to get JTaylor in a Patriot uni or stick with their blitz schemes to generate pressure. A shutdown corner who can return kicks the likes of DRC do not come around every day, he's a special athlete who is going to be special on Sundays and he's the guy I want and have always wanted. But I'm also a realist and I know that if BB had his choice he would go Gholston, so part of me hopes Gholston is picked in the top 3 to give DRC a chance to land with us, then another part of me won't cry if Gholston ends up at #7 in a Patriot uniform. Hey we're picking 7th after being in the SB, how great is this.

I'd take Gholston anyday over any corner in this years draft. I don't see Cason on many mock drafts going in the 1st round... which blows me away. Trading up for him early in the 2nd and getting Gholston at 7 would be a dream, IMO.

I have no idea why people want Cromartie so high. Because of the Senior Bowl and the combine? Sheesh, thank God you're not a scout.

um he was great @ Tennessee State..obviously your not gonna get noticed over there though. That put him in round 2 because he had to prove hes physical and can compete with higher quality guys. He did it. He shined @ Combine with a 4.33 and a a 38.5 inch vertical. What more can he do coming from Tennessee State besides show up @ 200 pounds?

Going to Tennessee State and then going in the top 10? I don't think so, unless you get 30 passes broken up and 10 picks a year.
