Re: OT: Jets on Pace to Overpay for another

i think the jets have improved quite a bit in the free agency and mangini will use pace quite well i think

Re: OT: Jets on Pace to Overpay for another

You all can laugh all you want but we add a good football player, and it does not cripple our cap. Did we overspend, yes but I am going to take a wait and see approach b/c I doubt anyone here is an expert on Calvin Pace and has seen him play more then 2 times last year. If Bill Parcells was reportedly offering a comparable deal then I think Pace is not some bum. We still have close to 20 mil free so its really not that big a deal to me

I'm not laughing. I see the jets going with McFadden, to add a dynamic O-player, and starting pennington (a known if unspectacular quantity) due to the must win nature of next season for the management team. Do you see McFadden now instead of C.Long or Gholston in the Jets' draft plans?

I honestly want to trade down to ten and get Rodgers-Cromartie. We have 3 4's so a trade could give us a lot of draft flexibility and land us a great prospect. Personally i still want Gholston b/c the 3-4 is all about depth at LB. DMC would be great as well, Im pretty much would not be mad either way draft day if we got him or Gholston. I still would not count out starting Clemens, this signing officially put the heat on to a 9 or 10 win year this season but thats not necessarily a bad thing. Im just happy that after so long were finally showing some aggression in FA. the Jenkins deal was actually a lot better then reported it contains multiple weight and performance clauses

1.) I saw Pace play several games. The Jets are definitely taking a gamble.

2.) The Jets are overpaying for their new additions. This is almost always a mistake when it's done in quantity.

As always, this stuff gets decided on the field, but the initial data shows the Jets paying a lot of money for big question marks.

P.S. The Jets just gave $25.5 million ($11 million guaranteed) to Damien Woody.

They almost have to. They have sh!t for offense. Bland WR. Bad QB (although Pennington can be OK with good players around him). A JAG RB. Nothing much at TE. Just . . . nothing.

Given the staggering amount of bonus money the Jets are paying out, it occurs to me they are setting themselves up for a trade down with Dallas for McFadden. They do reasonably well mid to late rd 1 (Revis/Mangold) and 2 players with limited rd 1 bonus money might be more suited to their taste.

moss is getting 27 million over 3 years

pace is getting 26 million for first 3 years.

A guy after my own heart. I want the Pats to draft Cromartie also, we'll see what happens.

I heard Pace on Sirius NFL Radio a week or so ago and he said that throughout his playing career (from high school, to Wake Forest, to the Cardinals), he's never played on a winning team before. Well, looks like nothing is going to change for him. :D

1.) Parcells is far from perfect. He has made some mistakes over his career. I question a lot of his moves he has made in the last few days, but the Dolphins are flushed with cash and in desperate need of an overhaul almost everywhere. Bill did
2.) I don't have a problem with signing Pace, but I do have a problem with the money. He is going to make $8.67 million a year for the first three years if the reports are true. That is a lot of money for a guy who isn't proven to be a great player, but might have potential.
3.) The Jets have spent a lot of money on two players with question marks - Pace and Alan Faneca. Faneca has had two fairly down years and is now the highest paid o-lineman. Pace had a good year last year, but not great year. If Faneca continues to slide and Pace turns into a one year wonder, the Jets could be in trouble.

Personally, I feel this free agency is a weak free agency and the Jets paid two players like the top players at their positions. That is a huge risk. I guess Mangini and Tannebaum may be playing on borrowed time since if they don't start to turn it around this year they could be gone. The thing is with all these free agent acquistions and the number of draft picks they will have, if the Jets don't at least become competitive this year; Tangini are almost assured of being gone. They can't say they don't have the talent this year.

Re: OT: Jets On Pace to Overpay for another

Ghoston is ours, rock on.

Something tells me that the Jets will be trying to dig themselves out from under this offseason in many years to come.

Yup Gholston will definitely be available now. The question is do the Pats bite, or do they trade down to free up some cap money?

I think this is Mangini's last year as coach of the Jets.

They paid how much? 6 sacks last year right? He could very well be a guy who's getting it, and maturing. The problem is, he could also be a bust. That's a lot of cash for a guy who hasn't really proved anything. The Pats must clearly feel that the monopoly money being thrown around this offseason isn't worth getting involved. I don't blame them. They're just gonna wait to pick from whatever's left over at a fraction of the cost. As usual, it's smart business.

I would tend to agree. If they can't finish at least .500 he'll be Manjobless, not mangenious.

I think that will come down to how much they think of him as a player, versus what other teams would be willing to offer to move into that slot. If Gholston is there, I'd like to guess that some teams would want to move up to #7. I'd still like to see them move down. Preferably for a package that includes an established defensive player. We shall see though.

Everyone's points of concerns here has my cautiosly taking a wait and see approach. I don't honestly know how to feel but lean towards pessimism
