Re: OT: Jets On Pace to Overpay for another

BTW, this could be very good for the Pats if they truly want Gholston. Odds are the Jets won't go in that direction with the 6th pick now since they still have some holes to fill.

Re: OT: Jets On Pace to Overpay for another

Honestly, I can't bring myself to care about what the Jets do.

I'm more concerned with the Moss deal. :singing:

Re: OT: Jets On Pace to Overpay for another

Terrible QB + Terrible Coach = NO SHOT. The Jets are the least of our worries.

Re: OT: Jets On Pace to Overpay for another

Dear God, the money they are throwing around for some of these guys is ridiculous.

Re: OT: Jets On Pace to Overpay for another

That's a lot of money to for 13 career sacks.

I was intrigued by Pace, he'll probably help them on defense, but 42 million with over 20 guaranteed is ridiculous.

Re: OT: Jets On Pace to Overpay for another

Wow, Mangini really is an idiot. Duped and fooled into believing a guy that averaged 3 sacks a year is going to be his pass-rushing OLB. Oh what an idiot. This is great news in Patriot land.

I agree. McFadden it sounds like is going to fall into the Jets lap. Whether or not they keep him or trade the pick to Dallas remains to be seen but it does look like Gholston will be there for the Pats if the Pats are still there at #7.

The Jets overpayed off of one year. IF he plays to that year, then maybe it's a good deal, but they're taking a big gamble.

The Jets could look at it like this: Gholston at $5 mil OR Pace and McFadden at $12 mil.

Re: OT: Jets On Pace to Overpay for another

Kind of wishing Fins got him so they would cut ties with JT.
Now can't see how they would cut JT if they lose out on Pace/

Left to do:

1. Finalize Moss.
2. Sign Gaffney (if possible).
3. Sign Clark Haggans...he'd be a real nice fit at ILB for the Pats' 3-4.
4. Sign Ty Law to play CB and help with the transition to newer guys (see point #6).
5. Draft Gholston in the first round.
6. Draft two CB with their next two picks.

The WR corps will be excellent again. The RB corps is better with the "addition" of Morris. The TE corps may improve with Thomas replacing Kyle Brady. The LB corps is younger with Haggans and Gholston replacing Seau and Colvin. The DB corps gets older with Law replacing Samuel, but they add some good younger players with the draft picks and Richardson, who comes back to the fold this year.

Overall, that's a pretty good offseason.

Re: OT: Jets On Pace to Overpay for another

That's fine let's hope he can't keep pace with the Patriots in the AFC east.
I was just gonna ask what was happening with him.
It really looks like the Jet's are not keying on Gholston.
Letting him slide to us.
What could be their plan?
I sense they want to trade down with Dallas, or draft Mcfadden for themselves.
So this could be an excellent situation if we are indeed locked on vernon.
I'm sure aside from the scouts Mike Vrabel will have his input on him as well.
Even though I've seen Mock Drafts which have Gholston going in the top 3.:(

Re: OT: Jets On Pace to Overpay for another

Leave it to the Jets to make a colossal blunder by overpaying for Bryan Thomas's contract year after a career of underachievement in various systems....

...and then REPEAT it with Pace just a few years later.

Gotta love the Jets.

They were talking on NFLN last night about The Jest signing Damien Woody to be their starting RT; if so, that might far outweigh this signing - hold this thought.

(FWIW, Pace interested me heading into FA but at this money Mangina better be right).

It's not like the addition of Pace is going to make them WORSE on the field, he's not a total scrub. The major goof is the contract they're giving him, but when you're a franchise currently towards the bottom half of the league, you often have to pay a little more for talent. That's how it goes.

There is talk in NY that Pace will play ILB next to Harris and this now frees them up to draft the kid out Ohio State (Gholston)..

Re: OT: Jets On Pace to Overpay for another

Great, so now the jets have OLB bookends of Pace and B. Thomas. Those are 2 stiffs even Light and Kaczur can handle. Given the money they've invested in those 2, one has to wonder if they can afford to put another 20 million guaranteed into the same position via the draft, especially with so limited an offense. Coles is disgruntled, and there aren't any dynamic O-players beyond Washignton/Coles. McFadden to me is starting to look like the guy for the NYJ. IMO that would be a good choice for them.

I see them going with Pennington because the coach and GM's ***es are truly on the line this season. After all that cash handed out, not making the playoffs would be a disaster for the franchise. To entrust the ship to an inexperienced spaz like Clemens doesn't fit the Jet MO. Last year was different, when they had a resevoir of credibility. No longer. They have to win early and win big.

I'm referring to the contract...................

And that's not just paying a little bit more, that's quite a bit more than he's worth. He's an average OLB in this league, nothing more, nothing less. There is no way he justifies this kind of contract. I can see Parcells chuckling as we speak.

Re: OT: Jets on Pace to Overpay for another

Hey I wanted the Pats to sign Pace before free agency period started, but I thought he was going to get a reasonable deal. I figured he would get about $10-15 million guaranteed with about $30 million over 6 years at that time. I would have been a little upset if the Pats didn't jump into the mix at that rate, but his guaranteed money was almost as much as Lance Briggs' total contract. That's crazy since Briggs was considered to be a far better free agent by virtually everyone. Although he doesn't fit the 3-4.

Re: OT: Jets on Pace to Overpay for another

Pace was a bust at defensive end, almost was let go from the Cardinals.

They do an experiment with him at linebacker, he does good.

Now, he is a savior????

I don't get the picture.

Let the Jets pay him crazy money if they want... there are better options.

Woody is a fat a s s that is lazy and slow.

There was a reason why he was let go from the Pats.

I'd like to see Hobson brought in.
