What's wrong with Moss wanting $$$$?

What’s wrong with Randy Moss wanting to get paid? Would any of you chumps take a pay cut just to work for a great company? I don’t want to hear the argument that he can afford it. Question still remains, would you take a substantial pay cut to switch to an employer that is ‘world class’? Many on this board couldn’t even afford to think about that. Yes, greedy as it sounds, in the end it’s about money. Rings are great, but even if you hawk them on Ebay, they don't provide for a nice financial future.

There's nothing wrong with it - but he did specifically say that he wouldn't try to break the bank for the Patriots like he would for other teams. So he may not exactly be living up to what he said.

Some people do. I know people who're self employed and make less money than they could working for someone else--but there's more to life than making money.

Yeah, I took a paycut to work for a better company. My brother has done the same thing in his line of work too.

In fact, Tedy Bruschi did it as well. Funny thing is, Tedy never had to play for the veteran minimum, and in the end he ended up earning MORE money by taking less because the Patriots never had to cut him because of an onerous contract.

My brother had a headhunter come after him to head a new unit of a big bank. The offer came with a raise of 45%. Three years later that bank axed the new unit. It was a failure, and everyone lost their job. That was 6 years ago. Hmmm, I wonder what the old execs at that unit are doing now.

The grass isn't always greener. Quality of life matters. Randy Moss said the same exact thing. He played for the Raiders and made big bucks. I heard he wasn't happy.

But sweeping general statements aren't productive, and usually aren't accurate.

In other words, why get mad at him for doing something you can't be sure he's doing? There will be plenty of time to be mad at him once we have facts.

Watched my brother take a pay cut for quality of life too. He was fast-trackiing at Deloitte and Touche when his kids were young. He was moving up quickly, and getting recognition there. He didn't like the fact that he was missing so much of his kids' lives so he took a pay cut to work as the CPA for a smaller company. He bought the company a few years ago and now has the best of both worlds. He's got money to burn (and I mean Moss money) and works his own hours now.

Bottom line is that chasing the dollar isn't always the best thing to do. Sometimes not chasing the dollar works out better. If my brother was still at D&T, he'd probably be doing well but by taking the job for the smaller company, he learned the business, what its potential was, and when the owner was ready to retire, he was able to convince the bank he was worth the risk and the rest is history.

No he didn't. He took a tremendous pay cut to play last year. what do you think he is, some kind of chump?

We owe him, not the other way around. If we don't pay him a salary comparable to what he could get elsewhere, it's on us.

I am glad things worked out for your brother. Quality of life in layman's lives is equal to a chance at a Super Bowl for a guy like Randy. Dallas/GB/Indy, etc give him similar chances to reach that goal...and if they ever gave him an offer that left our offer high and dry...he should take it.

Money isn't everything...but it is a lot of things.

"Break Kraft's Bank" is an expression. If you want to take it literally, it means he'll accept a contract under 1.1 billion dollars.

Now that that's out of the way, he gave us a tremendous deal and he'd rather play for us than a loser. He still wants his money and he damn well deserves it.
