Schefter thinks Meriweather moves to CB next season

I'm not thrilled, but what else are you going to do at this point?

At least it keeps your best players on the field. And i think he could do a decent job. Suddenly not much depth at safety.

I still want an OLB with the first rounder. If they have a poor pass rush next season you could have Deion Sanders and you'd be in trouble.

The key phrase here would be Shefter thinks... He's a mediot, not a football expert, and he has as few sources in Foxboro as anyone.

I'd be shocked...

Dumb. If he had the ability to play corner, that's what he would have played. Slow or old corners become safeties not the other way around.

There was a very telling interview early or pre season where he expressed tremendous relief at being able to play safety again. He doesn't like it and he's not good at it.

They will cross train him, but he his a safety, period.

I don't think they'll do that. Along those lines - at their pro days, Meriweather pretty much matched Hobbs on his 10, 20, 40 runs but was a good bit off on the Shuttle, 3 Cone and Jumps. He's not really a CB quality athlete.

I've seen corners become safeties and linebackers become safeties, but I can't recall a safety becoming a corner except maybe as an emergency injury replacement.

Then again, this is a team that turned a wide receiver into a defensive back . . .

im not thrilled bout it either...

he made great strides end of season at safety...it would almost be like evaporating his progress if he gets moved to CB now...

also, i dont think we can have rodney be playing SS full time either, his skills are dimnishing, as much as i love the guy....

therefore keep sanders and meriwhether at safety, with rodney subing in

but if meriweather did go to cb, it would be gay's position, nickelback, coverin the 3rd WR....

and we would either use law or rookie at asante's spot

Agreed completely.

Yeah, I mean it worked so well with Tebucky Jones.

Or maybe he can play both positions, at the same time. Then we don't even need 11 defenders.

Who plays FS? I don't expect them to count on Harrison starting.

I just said this in another thread....

Meriweather started at FS in the Super Bowl. That tells you something. He's going to be a beast as FS, his speed and range is perfect for the cover 3 zone. Playing him at CB would be a waste.

Troy Brown is going to be the starting cornerback next year.

What do you mean?

Harrison SS and Sanders FS are our starting safties at the moment.

What I mean is Harrison is limited in coverage, he got killed during the super bowl as well. It's time for the youth movement. Sanders can play SS, Merriweather with better hands is a pretty good FS. It's time to get faster. I bet they mix Harrison in with a lot of run formations, blitz packages. I really don't agree on counting on him to cover anymore and I bet the coaching staff doesn't either.

Sanders is truly a SS, he only played FS since Meriweather wasn't ready. If Meriweather was ready by the Super Bowl, he'll be ready for next year. IMO, playing Meriweather at FS is much, much preferable to playing Sanders there.

Except for the fact that Schefter is more often right than anyone else, and it's not even close. I never even consider a rumor to have an ounce of truth unless he reports it.

misdrection by BB?
