Despite signing Bernard Berrian on Saturday, the Vikings are believed to be interested in free agent Jabar Gaffney.

The Patriots are currently in discussions with Gaffney, but may be trying to lowball him. They might up their offer now that Randy Moss is listening to other teams. Vikings coach Brad Childress would view Gaffney as a slot receiver, although he already has a pretty good one in Bobby Wade.

Re: newest information regarding gaffney.

Oh that was some positive news :(

Re: newest information regarding gaffney.

Some other stuff from the Star Tribune as well...

Star Tribune said:
Word is the team has interest in one of New England’s free-agent receivers. No, it’s not Randy Moss. It’s Jabar Gaffney, who had 36 receptions for 449 yards and five touchdowns this season. Don’t know yet whether a visit is being set up for Gaffney. (By the way, the Moss situation is turning into one of the most interesting stories in free agency. So much for that: He’s going right back to New England stuff.)

Just checked on who represents Gaffney. It’s none other than Drew Rosenhaus, who also is the agent for Bernard Berrian. Seems like a good possibility that Drew tried to sell the Vikings on Gaffney while he was doing the Berrian deal.

Bottom makes sense.

Re: newest information regarding gaffney.

I think Drew Rosenhaus is pissed because the Pats took play time (read: money time) from Stallworth and gave it to Gaffney down the stretch. Stallworth was Rosenhaus' big money guy as WR. Now he's trying to screw the Pats in the Gaffney negotiations as payback. He already pulled Zach Thomas from under the Pats' noses at the last second, which I detected as a brushoff with English. As far as Minnesota actually being interested in Gaffney, I don't buy it. They already have Berrian, Wade and Rice. Maybe they found out the Pats are sniffing around Mewelde Moore and are firing a shot across the bows about Gaffney, telling the Pats to stay away from Moore.

Re: newest information regarding gaffney.

This offseason is becoming more depressing by the minute.

Re: newest information regarding gaffney.

That is alot of production gone , and also if this actually happens, More new recievers for Brady to work with, which is not a good thing..

Although Brady does adapt well, but if both moss and gaffney leave he has to say, what more can I do...

Re: newest information regarding gaffney.

Since we haven't lost Moss or Gaffney, I'm not depressed.

But it's very hard to understand what they are doing.

Who are they saving the money for???

This offseason is becoming more depressing by the minute.

It's a Sunday. Go to church, do some yard work, watch a movie....

Re: newest information regarding gaffney.

all it takes is speculative line like this to get everyone up in arms. shows how much media noise controls our own emotions. lets wait and see who is lowballing who .from what i have seen so far of the pats offseason- they have openly declared they are letting people go who they dont want now like colvin, stallworth, wilson, samuel, gay.
They havent said a thing (i go by what reiss reports) about gaffeny and moss.
media always goes for the best story and right now its the pats getting stripped of all their players. if gaffeny and moss come back the media has nothing interesting to churn up.

Well they let Assante go

Gay Stallworth and Colvin are gone

Moss and Gaffney are right now at best in Limbo

I dont think they are throwing the whole money at Ty Law or Jason Webster:D

FA is three days old, and its not over by a long shot.. But its not off to a great start, and hopefully Belichick is not down with Parcells watchin Cardnials baseball.. I think by next week it will be different

Lock up Moss and let this guy walk. He's been great for us but it looks like he's going to get a David Givens type offer. I'm sorry but no way he's worth that much to us.

Spending money, just because you have it is not smart. That is something Pats FO have stated many times.

On Chad Johnson's wikipedia page, there was this:

On March 2, 2008, Rumors were amid that infact the New England Patriots were not instrested in brining back Randy Moss because they were engaged in trade talks with the Cincinnati Bengals about a trade for Chad Johnson. The early reports from the AP say the Pats will give up a 2nd and 3rd round pick from this upcoming draft and a 2nd round pick in 09' to aquire the disgruntled Johnson.

If there's one guy that can minimize the loss of Moss, it's Chad Johnson. I have a weird feeling Randy and CJ will both be in a Pats uniform, or at least one or the other. No way BB and SP do this to Brady again(2006).

anyone can post on wikapedia.

Now that would be a blockbuster trade.

It's funny, this occurred to me as a possiblity, too.

That said, there is nothing to back this up other than logic.

For the record, I'd take Chad over Randy. Age is a factor. And I do think that there's a risk that Randy behaves badly with a long term deal.

To be clear, I want Randy bad. But I'd choose Chad over him at this point in their careers.
