Moss's Chase of the Checkbook indicates he's reverted to "Raider Randy"

Hate to add another Moss thread but I think it's important to broadcast this notion to the football world.

While Moss was here he demonstrated his ability to act like a team player (which is easier when you're getting enough passes thrown your way to set NFL records and aren't losing any games).

He also went on the record saying that money wasn't the most important thing - that winning was. He said - pleaded with Bob Kraft and Belichick publicly in fact - that he wanted to remain a Patriot and wanted to play with Brady.

Part of me felt that was all about Randy posturing, saying the right things to get the highest payday after his one year deal with the Pats. But I wanted to believe otherwise and in fact did eventually.

All of that was significant as when in Oakland it became clear to everyone that Randy was all about the money - not winning, and was a bad teammate that hurt rather than helped his team.

Well, now Randy is sending a loud message to the NFL about who the REAL Randy Moss is.

By all but turning his back on the Patriots and shopping himself to other teams he's made it clear that everything he said before about money and winning and being a good teammate was Bull$h!t.

This should give any GM or owner - including Belichick and Kraft - serious pause when contemplating whether to give this guy a multi-year $10 million a year contract. They all know now that his words about winning and teamwork mean nothing. It's all about the money.

And THAT tell us all that he's reverted to Raider Randy - a guy who, once he has a guaranteed contract in hand, isn't going to give it his all, and might actually be a detriment to the team, just as he was in Oakland.

I think Moss has miscalculated his moves - and may find that his offers are heading south the longer this saga continues. And whether its the Patriots or some other team that signs him, I'm very much worried as to the value he'll bring, and how hard he'll work with a long-term contract with dozens of millions of dollars guaranteed.

In a nutshell, Moss has sent a loud message to the NFL in his dealings with the Patriots - let the buyer beware... Raider Randy is back.

All of this is based on speculation - NONE of us has any clue what is going on in the War Room right now. And the Patriots know this, hence their offer is fair with respect to cash, but short on guarantees and years - meaning they will not position themselves poorly.

We don't know anywhere near enough about this situation to start casting the first stone in his direction. This is a very unfortunate post imho.

Saying he wants to retire a Patriot, not the money, etc are all just some pretty cliché lines any guy would say during the season. He wasn’t going to be saying…

“Well, actually I’m looking to making a lot of money next year – hope the Patriots can afford me.”

He was a saint on and off the field last year and had one of the most productive seasons in NFL history. He honored his contract and gave us his all, he owes us nothing.

If he goes, I won't cry, his pursuit of the dollar will have shown his character. If he stays and we get him for reasonable money, best possible scenario for us and I think supports the Randy we thought we knew and loved this year. If he stays and we overpay and he DOES turn into what we all fear, shame on us. With all that said, I don't expect the FO to make that mistake, so I suspect either he's staying at a reasonable rate and all are happy, or he's being greedy and he goes and nobody here is the worse for wear because we saw him for what he was. You can't be a me me me payday guy and help this team win, Brady has shown that with his constant ability to work for the team and not vice versa. How does Tom feel if the wide receiver is making more than him regardless of his interest in having Randy stay around...that's saying "I'm Randy, I'm the most important guy on this team (IMO), pay me"...I don't think that's a Pat mentality, and I don't think the FO, BB, or TB tolerate that attitude...they haven't in the past. All that remains to be seen is who is Randy, I think we all have a pretty good idea who the rest of the Pats are.

That's ridicilous. A we don't know what he thinks and b he was great last year for the Patriots. If he leaves I'm grateful for last year and wish him the best. He owes them nothing and as a professional player he has to look after himself.

I disagree strongly with this...it's not a 'hometown discount' it's a small monetary sacrifice in the overall interest of winning. No real competitor wants to be paid to lose. If Randy is a real competitor, he should know that here, you toe the line and play team ball or you go. If he wants the most money he can get, go elsewhere and most likely lose. If you want to win, as we have repeatedly shown, stay here, take a little less, and get it done. Hometown don't enter into it, winning SHOULD. What's left to discover is whether he wants to win more than he wants to retire with 87 Mil rather than 65 Mil...

Two things.

One, as has been said, we don't actually know what Moss is thinking right now. John Clayton is a little girl whose reports mean truly nothing.

Two, without knowing what the Pats are offering vis-a-vis what the market would bear, how the hell are you judging Moss so harshly? If the Pats were offering $5 mm a season and it was clear he could get $10 mm from other teams, would you really expect him to stay? Do you not realize that Moss' earning power probably goes to zero on the day he retires?

I'm as wound up as you are about Moss, but let's keep the pink hats in the closet for a while longer.

He could just as easily win in somewhere like Jacksonville or Dallas.

We are in no position to say stay here if you want a championship – because we certainly can’t guarantee that and haven’t in 3 years.
