AFC East: Closing the gap?

Jets add Faneca and Jenkins, Bills add Stroud and Mitchell, Dolphins add Pace, Ferguson, Wilford, Torbor......Is the huge gap between the 'other three' and the Pats getting smaller? Of course, we don't know yet what the Pats will do, but they've already had one major subtraction with possibly another coming and a couple of other somewhat significant losses. I've got to think there might be a trade in the works, just a feeling.

On paper it looks like its closing. Miami still has huge issues at QB. I think the Jills have some issues there as well. Until those get solved, they will always stay an arms length (or more) away.

Jax is who i don't get. i don't like any of their moves so far. they threw money at cleo lemon and signed a chronic malcontent, and overrated player in porter to decent money.

Dolphins haven't added Pace yet. The fact they haven't closed the deal may mean that it may not happen.

As for closing the gap, yes it is closing. But you are talking a Grande Canyon type of gap. I don't know if any of the teams are close enough to contend for a title. Many of the moves each team has made have the potential of not working out.

As of 3/1, aka way too early I feel...

A) The Pats are still clearly going to win the AFC East.
B) The Bills will be a strong Wild Card competitor
C) This will be the rat's last year as a head coach.
D) The Dolphins are still god awful.

I agree. But it may not happen until closer to the draft or even draft day. If we don't re-sign Moss then I wouldn't be surprised if we make a deal for Chad Johnson on draft day.

The gap between the Pats and the rest of AFC east in 2007 was bigger than any gap in the history of competitive athletics. The season is a long way off and the Pats haven't made their moves yet, in FA or the draft. As long as Tom Brady is upright the gap is a grand canyon.

I'm honestly not sure how the gap could get any bigger. The Pats obviously can't do better than 16-0, and honestly the other teams can't technically get much worse, unless they have zero wins outside the division and split among each other.

The Bills are filling holes, and will continue to do so smartly in the draft. They are still bringing in WR's and TE's. They know that the offense needs to be upgraded, but 7-9 when they're flip-flopping QB's for a whole year? They'll be better next year with Edwards as a full-time starter. He's not a star, but he's a good game-manager and their line gives him plenty of time.

The Jets are filling holes, but expensively. They'll probably get better, but I don't see them going 10-6 again. The Dolphins are rebuilding from the ground up. They'll probably win about 5 or 6 next year, is my guess.

the qb's are lightyears apart, as are the coaches....

if you ask football fans today which team is better, the NY giants or the NE Patriots, the answer would be the latter...

but a loss has gonna come sooner or later....it just so happened that it came in a SB, to the NY giants....


these teams play again, the Pats O-line doenst disintegrate like the wicked witch of the west having water thrown at her....which leads to a Patriot win

No, but one fluke game ≠ a 16 game season. Think back to 2006 when the Jets beat the Patriots in the second matchup of the season and thought they had something going when the playoffs rematch came to pass.

They got pasted 37-16.

If the Patriots and Giants from last season played 100 games against each other, New England probably wins 96-97 times. However, it only takes 1 loss to make such a point moot, and that's what we all witnessed.

P.S. Coughlin is a hell of a coach, though.

How was game 1 closer than people think? Manning, who'd been struggling mightily, finally hit a few passes and started on his 'roll'. In the game before, against the Bills, he threw for 111 yards and 2 picks. Against Washington a week earlier, he went 18/53 for 184. In week 14, the great and powerful Eli wnt 17/31 for 219, and against the Bears in week 13, he went 16/27 and tossed 2 picks.

In the game against the Patriots, the Giants came out hyped to the gills and put the Patriots on their heels. New England had to come from behind. I don't think people have forgotten that. On the other hand, New England still won with all the emotion that the Giants had going for them.

In 100 games, Manning probably sucks in about 60-70 of them, and those are Patriots blow-outs. He's not going to see his receivers pull a 'helmet catch' out of their asses every game. As for exact percentages, unless you're going to seriously claim a close split, we're really just haggling over trifles.
