If the front office KNOWS that they are no longer in the running for Gay, then we can move on. We really shouldn't have moved on until we knew for sure that Samuel and Gay were gone.

I posted this in another thread, but it concerns some of NE's options at CB, so I'll repost it here:

Lito Sheppard:
I don't know how much it would cost to acquire Lito's rights from the Eagles, but I wouldn't think they could get much more than a second rounder. They've given up, and received less for better players. He's also had some injury problems of late (missed 6 games in '05, 3 games in '06, and 5 games in '07), and he's not expected to be a starting CB for them, if he stays.

Domonique Foxworth:

I'm wondering if sending a 3rd round pick over to Denver for Domonique would be a good idea? They only tendered him at that level (3rd round), so we know that would be the compensation Denver would receive, if another team were to sign him away. Is he worth a third rounder?

He's only 24, and he's played 46 out of a possible 48 games so far. His production went down in 2007, but that's because the Broncos traded for Dre' Bly.

Here are his three year stats:
2005: 16 games, 71 total tackles (65 solo), 16 PD's, 1 FF, 9 Rec (correct?), 2 INT's.
2006: 16 games, 61 total tackles (49 solo), 6 PD, 1 FF, 1 INT,
2007: 14 games, 42 tackles (31 solo), 4 PD's, 1 FF

The New England Patriots could swap first round draft picks with the Eagles for Lito Sheppard.

7th Pick Overall 1500 points
19th Pick Overall 875 points

With regard to the NFL Draft Pick Trade Chart, that would roughly equivalent to the 30th pick overall (620 points). With the 19th pick overall, the New England Patriots could select Antoine Cason, CB from Arizona.

Foxworth sucks and I would not even trade a seventh round draft pick for that stiff.

That would be a horrible trade. Lito Sheppard has a history of injuries so I wouldn't take that chance. The Eagales will have to settle for a 2nd rounder at best. As far as taking Cason with the 19th pick if that trade went through would be even worse. Cason will not be a first round pick. His stock is dropping. This class of cornerbacks are not that good.

Antoine Cason's stock is rising ever since he ran a 4.49 in the forty. There is no better cornerback in the 2008 NFL Draft with better hands than Antoine Cason.

Sheppard is a good (definately not great) corner, but he has a real history of injuries. With that in mind I might give up a 3rd for him, and he wants a new contract too so I really dont think there is much chance of him coming to NE. I have the feeling we will get someone via trade, but not someone we are expecting like Sheppard.

why they don't sign Law for the beginning?

Samuel leaving is a loss, but Randall Gay is irrelevant. Can we please leave him out of this? Get real.

I think BB is going to revamp the CB position in the draft. We'll have a lot of rookie depth next year and plenty of talent to develop in the future. The downside is it will cost us games, which will cost us home field in the playoffs, which will likely cost us a chance to get back to the SB.

But chalking up one season to develop some fresh talent might be worth it in the long run. This off-season is starting to have a quasi transition year feel to it.

I'm all for having lots of young depth. 2 rookies and Richardson are fine.

But first, let's get the two starting corners (including nickel) we need.

I think it is foolish to chalk up any seasons during Tom Brady's prime. It isn't going to last forever.

The Pats seem to think that the speed positions require a lot less continuity the the lines or LB.

Roughly speaking, DB and WR have turned over at least twice since the first Super Bowl win, while the lines and LB have turned over only once.

Indeed, LB is the only unit with two players still around from the first win -- three if you count Izzo.

as unpopular as it may seem i think that the pats should hope pacman jones gets reinstated, then go heavy after him. I thinks he is easily worth a 4-5th round pick... high risk, extremely high reward... give him a moss like deal, i.e. we can cut him without any real impact on the salary cap

Edit: Didn't see the picture of him on the other page!!!

Hank Poteat is available.

Ok, I posted this in another thread but here it goes....First sign Law for cheap for a one MAYBE two year deal. Next, draft either Cason/McKelvin early. After that use later picks on a corner like Jonathon Zennon (LSU). And there you go, Pats have some youthful CB's with some veteran experience for their rookie season, not to mention you still have Mixon and Spann around to fight it out at camp and who can forget about good ol' Hobbs! That being said this team does not need to waste money on guys like Lito Sheppard or DeAngelo Hall honestly i don't want either of these guys on the team.
