I'm wondering how comfortable Belichick is with Cassell and Guttierez. Scanning the QB's I noticed Kevin O'Connell from San Diego State who has a chance of being there at the end of round 5 ... the highest round I would use to draft a QB IMO. Would you take him at the end of 5 or even move up to the top of 5 to get him?

Anyone see this kid play this year?
Has better intangibles than Cassell and/or Guttierez.
IMO I'd like to see Guttierez be #2 and see Cassell shipped out.
Cassell has not shown the upside I thought he might have.

Kevin O Connell
QB | (6'5

", 225, 4.95)

Possesses outstanding size,
Has quick feet and is efficient getting set up.
Shows a quick release
Puts excellent zip on downfield passes
Can throw into tight spaces and can make all throws
Possesses good pocket presence
Plays with confidence and is a competitor on the field

O'Connell's play has substantially improved over the past two years and there is a high ceiling on his potential. He possesses the size, mobility and arm strength of an NFL starter. However, O'Connell is a developmental prospect that did not play the highest level in college and still has lots to learn in terms of footwork and the mental portion of the game. In order to reach his full potential at the next level

he won a bowl like other guy some years ago and he is projected 7th round...

way too small ... not even close for a pocket passer type line like ours.

There is a kid out of Michigan that i would definitely grab if he is still available in the 2nd round...

Well, they thought enough of Cassel these last two years to not keep anyone more experienced on the roster. Obviously, if he wants a chance to start, there's only one way that's happening in Foxboro, and we're not going to talk about that.

The only problem, though, is what you do with Cassel or Gutierrez if you do draft another QB. Ideally, if the Pats are going to draft another QB, I'd like to see one of the Matts actually get traded first (at this point, if someone offered a third for Cassel, I'd jump all over it, and I'd at least think about a high fourth-rounder), rather than some QB-hungry team pouncing on them after they get cut.

Absolutely I would grab a 3rd ... even a mid round 4th would be fine if it got us to the top of the 4th round. The top of the 4th is a great place to find some good hungry players. I don't think we'd get a pick that high ... but if someone were desperate who knows. many smaller QB's in the draft this year...only about 5 or 6 who have any size so we may get lucky ... we'll see.
