OPINION: The Truth Behind the Moss Delay

The Patriots are hesitant to committ big $$$ to him for the same reason his deal last year had a Patriots "eject" button. They are concerned he will go AWOL mentally if things go bad.

Now I know you are going to say he is reformed, but how hard is it to act reformed when your a part of the 2007 Patriots (accomplishments of which you are aware of...18-1, perfect reg-season, records, etc)?

Say we have a bad stretch of games and he decides to go Mr Hyde on us...lets see...$15+ million guaranteed...VERY PAINFUL to cut at that point (which BB would want to be able to do).

My guess is the Patriots want a deal that is going to allow an "out" in case of emergency. The Moss camp is all about guarantees. Thus the impass.

Very difficult to disagree. Last year we risked a 4th round pick and $3M. This year ? Not just $10M or so but also bonus acceleration. We've already had one similar situation (Dillon) not work out on the second contract.

I'd put money on the Patriots having offered something like 3 year/$30M with the money being three $10M salaries but with no signing bonus or guarantees.

I think Pats have talked to Moss and said, "See what you can get. If it's bigger than our offer, we'll match it." And moss will give them that courtesy, while keeping the arrangement hushed from other teams so as not to prejudice other offers.

i'm not so sure you'll be able to get chad, but i bet you could have if you still had that late 1st round pick cause i don't think there is any way in hell NE gives up a 7th overall 1st rounder for chad, despite how talented he is

We can get him if we want. You're right it wouldn't be for #7 overall and the Bengals likely wouldn't do a late #2. But there's all kinds of options involving other picks. #7 for Johnson + other stuff, all kinds of options. I bet Belichick would be interested in the Bengals #1 next year or other picks this year. Too bad the Bengals have a top ten #1, a trade down to the middle of round one isn't there like a potential Sheppard deal with Philly.

Well, that would depend on how one would interpret the subject line. Considering that it was prefaced by the word "opinion", the assumption would be that the information following the word "opinion" would be solely one of my personal belief or judgment. The truth that I speak of is my truth. My reality. Not the absolute interpretation of what is truth.

Now get the hell out of here. You remind me of my annoying father in law who lives in NJ. I live in MA, and every time I say we are coming up to visit, he feels the need to correct me by saying; "you mean coming down?"

If Moss rejects a lucrative and fair offer from the Patriots to go with the highest bidder, then I don't want him back.

That would mean he's reverted to his Raider Randy attitude of me first, money first.

That would mean all his talk about team first and wanting to play with Brady was JUST talk, to trick other teams into thinking he'd changed his ways.

If all of that is the case than the tens of millions we'd have devoted to him would probably be money wasted, as he'd revert to Raider Randy as soon as he had his money in hand.

A contract like this is exactly why they don't want to sign him...if he isn't "reformed" you are on the hook for 17.5million! You willing to gamble that kind of money that he is going to be a good soldier?

you hit the nail right on the head. if the pats dont bring moss back they know what they are doing. moss isnt gone yet and im already over it. the pats dont need him to have a winning team.

I think at this point the smartest move for the pats would be to trade for Lito Sheppard and get that corner back spot solidified.
