I guess those are two seperate topics but... trading Shaun Rodgers to the Browns for Leigh Bodden and a 3rd rdr seems like a lopsided deal, almost as lopsided as Shaun Rodgers' paunch. Granted, when he's not taking himself out of games because he's out of shape or getting suspended for using the wrong cough syrup, Rodgers can be a force. I guess Savage thinks Rodgers can do for the Browns what Mangina believes K. Jenkins can do for the Jets. But Bodden is a legit starting cb and the draft is deep this season.

i dont understand the Browns on this 1. u give up a very good CB when u just got yourself Corey Williams for a 2nd rounder..u also have an adequate backup in Smith @ nose so what are u gonna do with 2 starting type guys in a 3-4 that both weigh over 325

nvm..im reading on boards that Williams is like 315 and hes gonna be a DE

The strangest thing about the deal is the value of Leigh Bodden. The Lions originally agreed to trade Rogers to the Bengals for 3rd and 5th round picks. When that trade fell through, they then moved Rogers to the Browns for a 3rd round pick and Leigh Bodden.

How the hell is Leigh Bodden only worth the equivalent of a 5th round pick? I would trade the Pats early 3rd round pick for Bodden and feel like got a steal.

Woah woah... Matt Millen got on the good side of a trade?

I didn't think it could be done...

Only on February 29...that's the problem! ;)

I was going to say the same thing - although I do think Bodden is somewhat overrated; and the Cincy #3 was quite a bit higher than the Browns' #3.

But, yeah, I liked the deal for Detroit too. The only explanation in favor of the Browns is Rogers does have more upside if they can get him to play to it consistently.

I think you can read it as the Cincy deal having fallen through BECAUSE the Browns offered Bodden + a 3rd, and the Bengals were unwilling to go higher.

As Romeo Crennel essentially runs our system over there in Cleveland, that goes to show the difference in value between CB and NT in the 3-4. And as an NT, Rogers' penchant for putting on weight suddenly becomes an asset, not a liability.

On the Lions side, Rogers was a big fat waste of salary who played only when he wanted to play. Bodden has been good for a very long time on bad teams; he's a blue-collar guy, so he's an improvement over Rogers. Cory Redding is slated to be the star 3 under tackle in the Lions' defense anyways.

i like bodden but perhaps the reason he was gotten so easily is because of all his injury issues

I think it is a good trade for both teams. Cleveland has an excellent offense but their defense was poor. Looking at the Patriots you can never have enough talent of the defensive line.

Bodden is a nice 4th CB but hardly special.

The Spelling Jugend strikes again: Shaun Rogers.
