Dolphins sign Calvin Pace [or not]

Re: Dolphins sign Calvin Pace

What's your excuse for his tenure under McGinnis?

Neither McGinnis nor Green strike me as the same caliber as Wisenhunt. Plus, he was a DE during those years.

In other words, you don't have any real reason regarding McGinnis. That pretty much gets everything back to:

Contract year wonder, it's a lot of money for a big gamble.

Now, that doesn't mean he won't work out for whichever team signs him. It just means that he's a big money gamble.

Sure, if that's how you want to frame it, fine. Whatever floats your boat. But when a coach who has experience in a 3-4 system comes in, moves the guy to OLB, and all of a sudden the guy transforms into a different player... it could be money, it could not. My point is only that there are more variables at play here than usual with contract year overachievers. Thus: his performance is less likely to be directly attributable to $$ concerns.

Re: Dolphins sign Calvin Pace

now we see this:
The Dolphins successfully agreed to terms with every known free agent that visited South Florida today -- except for one.

Calvin Pace, an edge rusher who can play defensive end or outside linebacker, said Friday that he would still take his scheduled trip to visit the New York Jets. But it certainly sounded as if he was leaning toward Miami.

''I love it,'' Pace told The Miami Herald at approximately 6 p.m. ''I'm feeling it. You know [Bill] Parcells, he's going to win wherever he goes. We'll see man. I might be lining up on the other side of [Miami defensive end] Jason Taylor.''

Pace, who had a breakout season with the Cardinals last season, also said he is not at all worried about joining a team that went 1-15 last year. Instead, the idea of playing for a rebuilding team is apparently alluring to many of the eight other players who have signed with the Dolphins on Friday. Pace is no exception.

''I came from Arizona,'' Pace said. ``You've got to think that's in the past. Moving forward, this is going to be a good team.''

So why the trip to New York?

''I'm happy here,'' Pace said. ``But I just feel like I should still take that trip. I've got one more trip to take, and we'll see what happens.''

Re: Dolphins sign Calvin Pace

We're better off anyway. Do we really want the Pats to chase a guy who says "Hmm...I think I'll take meetings a couple of AFC East teams, and they'll be the ones that finished last and second to last?"

You'd think that after years of losing in Arizona, he'd consider winning to be a little more important than money. Guess not.

Re: Dolphins sign Calvin Pace

I would love to see the fat tuna take one hard where the sun doesn't shine after all the times he has done the same to us, tampa and Atlanta.........gotta hate the stinky tuna!!

i would rather see him come here or stay out of AFC East. is it really that much better that Jets get him than Dolphins? I respect Tuna way more than Mangini

I agree with you there....I DESPISE Man-gina with black hatred..........I only hate the tuna....;) But I do respect Parcells.....He is a very good coach and will help them down there........unfortuneatly for them, he will pull out of town in the middle of the night and leave everything in an unraveled mess....

Re: Dolphins sign Calvin Pace

Pace was a contract year 'wonder'. The Dolphins just dropped a ton of money on a big gamble.

He was considered a big bust, changed positions... and now he is a savior????

He isn't that good imo.

That is so neatly put !

Kinda like the levels of hell.

Re: Dolphins sign Calvin Pace

Pace still hasn't signed on the dotted line with the Dolphins but he is visiting the Jets today as most of you already know. I wouldn't get into a bidding war for Pace but I would be intrigued at the possibility of seeing him as an OLB for the Pats. Not sure he is worth the kind of guaranteed $$ that are being thrown around after only 1 solid season as a pro though.

NO DEAL FOR PACE, YET

On Friday, there were conflicting reports as to whether free-agent 'tweener Calvin Pace had agreed to terms with the Dolphins. The Miami Herald said he hadn't, and Bucky Brooks of SI.com reported that he had.

Per Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official web site, Pace has not struck a deal.

"I got a text from Calvin Pace this morning saying he has not agreed to any contract yet," reports Urban. "So that would mean the SI.com report that he is a Dolphin is premature. It doesn't mean he won't end up in Miami, but again, nothing is final. Just thought I would throw that update out there, after all the confusion of Friday night. Pace is supposed to visit the Jets today."
