Well Asante already has ... could we be looking at 2 3rd round comp picks?

Or at the very least a 3rd and a 4th?

Call me crazy but I like what Belichick has done so far.
Huge $$$ guys tend to get lazy ... Brady is the exception for us.
I am in the minority ... I really hope Moss goes elsewhere if we have
to pay him any more than $7 million / year.

I'm hoping we reload through the draft ... no guarantee of a Super Bowl
for now but it does guarantee future success for the team as long
as Bill and Scott are here.

Ok you are the minority.
We can't sugar coat letting moss walk with no compensation.
Can't be sugar coated at all.

I think there's definitely some truth in this. As BBs motto goes he will do what's best for the team which means not handcuffing them with exhorbitant contracts that will prevent them from addressing the bigger needs which are linebacker and cornerback.

New England Patriots Football - it's never boring!

No compensation?

You're nuts ... the $$$ will be spent on what we need.
A superstar who was negated by the weather and defenses down the stretch is not what we need. Moss will get you a playoff record .. that's about all he'll get you.

If that happens, then we'll have tons of money to spend on defense.

I don't mind Assante, but there aren't any other $7M guys out there, and we could end up ridiculously far under the cap, and be missing out on talent. Part of me won't be upset if we let him go, we'll assume something, and we'll compensate, but I still think they're a better team with him there, and that they could have him for a 'reasonable' amount of money that they wouldn't be able to effectively spend on other comparable talent...if Assante is worth 9.5M to someone, I think we can and should afford Randy at 7-8M...who else do you spend that amount on and get the return you get out of even a slightly lazy Randy?

Quote Moss is the smartest hardest working wide reciever I've ever been around.
Quoted by Brady and Moss

You're not alone. So far, I'm liking the direction we're going in. If we sign Moss, then we sign him. If we don't, the team must go on.

If Moss signs elsewhere I think they move quickly to bring Stallworth back.

i would pay moss up to 8m a year....no more then that...

let him get the rest elsewhere....but i had rather have him

We won't compete for a championship this year but will have lots

of compensatory picks next year.

I would go to $8 million if it's a 2- year deal with $10 million guaranteed.
I don't want him for more than 2 years. To be effective he's going to have to go over the middle more in the playoffs and if lucky the Super Bowl. One year of that will knock the snot out of him. I think he'll do it to get a ring ... he may have no choice. Receivers making $$$ on the long ball are quickly being negated as we saw in the Super Bowl.

Give me a break with this crap. How the hell did we make it to the AFCCG with Caldwell as our number 1?

SPOILED BRATS

If Moss goes elsewhere, we could look to the trade front and Larry Fitzgerald or Roy Williams. We do have some valuable commodities on the trade front (#7 comes to mind). #7 to Arizona for Fitz and the 46 (~) pick in the draft.

You don't let star players go to collect compensatory draft picks.

I've been a Moss fan forever, and when I woke up that faithful April morning, to the news that he was a Patriots, I thought I was in heaven. With that said, I would have no problem, Bill/Scott did what they have always done, assign a value and not go beyond it. It has worked, I hope Moss comes back, but I always thought it was possible that he may not. I will always be a fan, and hope he does well.

If we have BB and TB, we'll always have a chance to compete for a championship.

would hate to see moss go, but i dunno if i want him to stay if we have to break the bank for him.

Right now, Asante will get the Pats a 3rd round comp pick in 2009, so that really won't help in the short run.

The same goes if Moss leaves.

I get what you're trying to do, but, as far as I'm concerned, there's still no excuse for not franchising Moss if they didn't have a deal worked out.
