It's reportedly a five-year, $47.2 million deal. To the casual fan, that's short of the $10 million per year average from the eight-year, $80 million deal signed last year by Nate Clements of the 49ers. As everyone in PFT Planet knows, the Clements deal is actually seven years and $64 million, making it worth a hair over $9 million per year.

Samuel's deal carries an average of nearly $9.5 million. They could have added a phony final year that would have pushed the average to $10 million per year or more, and we respect both sides for doing what looks to be a "real" deal.

He's not worth it :D

Wow. That is simply ridiculous. Philly just overspent dramatically. Well, he certainly "got paid"...

Hmm....

Shouldn't the Iggles be looking for a QB?

Just sayin'...

good for him. now he can buy a few more houses plus visit them right after the regular season.

10 million dollar a year players don't miss Super Bowl winning interceptions.

Just a question: if we don't bring in a stud FA (and I can't imagine we will at this point) does that mean we get a compensatory pick between the 3rd and 4th for the Asante loss? I can't imagine a bigger FA loss for any team this offseason. Asante broke the bank.

He got rich to this

Hmm....

Donovan has been recovering from that ACL for like two years now they say it takes like 18-20 months to fully recover so this year would be a big year in seeing wether he can ever be the same. If I were the eagles I wuold stick with Donovon and hope he returns to form because he is a better option than joing the perenial search for a QB corp.

I understand that the buzzards feel lack of turnovers was a problem- but WOW!

Then they look to trade Sheperd for a $14M Fitzgerald?

Comcast donating? Specter earmark? Maybe this means Donovan will be crying somewhere else when someone "Mcnabbs" him.

Hey, I have no complaints that Asante is leaving for the other conference...especially the Eagles. IMO, I think its a good move on their part to take Asante, and then trade Lito and pick up Fitzgerald. They replace Lito with a CB who is just as good and less injury prone, and pick up a receiver that they so desperately need. I'm in school in Philly so it will be weird to see an Eagles game with Asante in green...but at least its not THAT green. Good luck Asante. Fun while it lasted. Can't wait to see what BB/Krafty/SP do to fill our spot.:D

They drafted Kolb last year and seemingly aren't getting rid of McNabb. It doesn't matter who the QB is if there is no one to throw to. Philly needs receivers.

if philly needed recievers, how come they let go stallworth last year?

and what they gonna do with samuel? eagles play press 24/7.....

wierd

Good for Asante.

His days of being perceived as an "elite corner" are numbered, too, as I doubt he finds the same success in Philly. The notion that Asante is "elite" or is anywhere near where Bailey, Law, etc. were in their prime is an absolute joke. Asante is a solid corner in our system, but - according to Michael Holley at least - had nearly identical metrics to Hobbs, and in some cases, Hobbs was better. He's a playmaker who takes good risks, that's about it, I actually think our secondary can improve without him.

I thought it was weird at first as well. However, Reid is a good coach and obviously they seem to think he's worth it and can fit their system. Good for them. He got paid...now watch his production drop. I guarantee it. I think everyone will see that Asante was at his best in our defensive sceme. I'll miss him though. Hope we can pick up a DRC or Cason in the draft.

So when the season is over and the Eagles are not Super Bowl champs, is Specter going to demand an inquiry into the excessive spending habits of the Eagles management? I pray that the Eagles do miserable...not because of the players but because of old Mr. Grumpy Sourgrapes.

Exactly. Only diffference is that Hobbs had more perceived talent coming out of college than Asante considering where they were both drafted. Looking forward to seeing Hobb's progress though.

pats may end up with an extra 3rd or 4th round draft pick for compensation depending upon what, if any, FAs the pats sign.

It's unlikely they will even win the division next season. Cowboys and Giants are relatively stiff competition. I think the Eagles will receive 100X greater benefits from landing Fitzgerald, then they will get from Asante.

Cannot wait to see Assante get schooled by TO and Burress twice a year...we will then see exactly what an "elite" corner he is...
