The Dolphins are expected to offer Calvin Pace a deal similar to the one Adalius Thomas and Joey Porter commanded last off-season.

The acquisition of Pace would almost certainly shift the Dolphins into more of a permanent 3-4 defense, as Pace struggled in 4-3 schemes for his first four years in the NFL.

If that is what he is commanding, Pats will not chase him.

Re: Doophins chasing Calvin Pace

With the amount of cap room teams have I'm afraid the Pats will have to overpay even for marginal talent, esp pass rushers.

Re: Doophins chasing Calvin Pace

IMO this is a good indication that Miami intends to draft Matt Ryan, and not C. Long or Gholston. Otherwise they could hardly justify having Pace, Porter and Long with big deals at OLB plus J. Taylor commanding his annual salary.

Or trade out.............

Based on some of the deals that have been done. Paying Pace Adalius Thomas money may be paying him market value.

Yea, I read something earlier that told me Pace might not be a great option.
Calvin's apparently looking to "cash in significantly", and it's rumored that the Dolphins are going to offer him something like $20M guaranteed. I don't think NE would give him that much, especially since to date he's a contract year wonder.

--- I know the system changed, and I know he switched positions. He could also continue to play at that high level after signing elsewhere. The point is that it's kind of risky to invest that much guaranteed money ($20M) into a guy who's only produced for a single season, his contract year.

Asante Samuel says "I resemble that remark." :)

With all due respect. I don't see Parcels drafting Ryan at all. He will be there what maybe 4 years at most. He has a young QB and wants a veteran to lean on. Also, I think your assuming that because we would convert Chris Long to OLB that EVERY 3-4 team is looking at him that way and that's not the case. He is an experienced DE in a 3-4 and Miami even with Pace could easily draft him as just what he is at this point a 3-4 DE. That's why they want a Rodgers type NT to clog up 2 blockers to possibly draft C. Long and put him at DE or move Taylor back to DE. My point is they wont draft Ryan and C. Long is very much in play regardless if they pick up Pace or not. But the player nobody is talking about with regards to Miami is the other Long Jake who is very much in play as well.
They are not interested in Gholston, so he will not matter.
