The Jets have sent their 3rd and 5th picks to Carolina for Kris Jenkins.
The Browns have sent their 2nd rounder to Green Bay for Corey Williams.
(Both per PFT)

The impact? Two teams that run the 3-4 defense have traded three picks, including two good ones, to teams that run the 4-3 defense.

Corey Williams..not Murphy

and Jets losing the 3rd round pick isnt bad for a player like Jenkins

Good news indeed, with the 3-4 ILB prospects seeming to cluster in the 2-3 range.

(By the way, OT, I've been out of commission lately due to a huge ramp up in work commitments. The other mods have kindly committed to helping keep the draft board in shape as April approaches, but everybody feel free to PM if you need me for anything!)

Thanks for the correction. Is it a bad trade for the Jets? I guess we'll see if Jenkins can 2-gap at the NT (I think he's washed up and a bad fit). But it's a great trade as far as the Patriots' draft is concerned. If were looking at guys like Red Bryant, Cliff Avril, Beau Bell, Jon Goff, etc. getting those picks out of the Browns and Jets hands is huge.

The Pats may be forced to unload some of their picks to get a

decent cornerback.

But the Jets are likely to get picks back from NO and whoever takes Robertson. I thought I liked Red Bryant but he didnt do much at the Senior bowl and I didnt hear anything from him at the combine.....And all jets fans want Gholston so thats a bummer.

The Vilma trade is for conditional picks, so any high pick going from NO to NY won't be until next year. As for Robertson, who's going to trade a fourth rounder or better for him?

Last year we laughed our heads off when the Jets traded most

of their draft choices and obtained only two players Revis and

Harris. The Pats were smart and held onto most of theirs. Guess

what? There are as many 2007 Patriot draft picks on the Jets as

on the Patriots. If the Jets lose a few draft picks in trades, they

will recover them when the Pats cut their draft picks and add Chad

Brown and Hank Poteat.

I seem to remember the Patriots trading a #1, #2, and #4 last year. They cut a #4, #5, 3 #6s, and a #7. Not really the same thing. Plus, the Pats figure to have more job openings this year.

HUH? This draft is loaded with good corners. Or are you really saying that to get LITO SHEPPARD, the Pats may have to unload some picks?

My answer is why? The Eagles may have put themselves into a situation where they will have to trade or cut Sheppard. If they cut him, then he could be signed without having to give up a draft pick.

The reason the Pats had so many cuts was because they have fewer roster spots available. They are a much deeper team than the Jets. Comparing the number of drafted players that made the roster isn't a fair comparison unless you take into account the respective depth of the teams involved.

Nothing like talkinig our your rear-end here. The Patriots had 4 picks that they couldn't trade. The Pats attempted to make other trades and couldn't find anyone to trade with. How is that their fault.

Also, as was pointed out, the Pats roster was pretty much SET prior to the draft. Meaning that the picks (in an extremely weak draft) were a luxury.

If you are so damn smart, who should the Pats have taken last year that would have made this team?

I would have taken cornerbacks and linebackers instead of three offensive

linemen who had no chance whatsoever of making the roster.

By the way, I understand that you are a graduate of the Don Rickles'

School of Charm.

Could've sworn they chose 2 LB's that couldn't make the real squad.

Who would you have taken. Don't sit there and act like you know wtf you are talking about unless you have the information to help back it up. Who would you have taken?

Hell, I'm even giving you the benefit of HINDSIGHT.

Who would you have taken? And who would they have beaten out to make this team?

Oh, I hate to break it to you, but those 3 O-linemen had more of a chance of making this team than any of the LBs and CBs left in the draft when the Pats took them. Particularly Elgin. Still can't figure out why the Pats let him go unless he wasn't picking up the terminology properly.

Rogers was borderline and the Pats wanted him on their practice squad.

Lua was IRed. He could have been cut with an injury settlement long before now. Not sure why he wasn't.

I just want to give you guys some great draft news as well:

Now that Lonnie Paxton is signed, you won't have to take a long snapper with the 7th pick in the draft. Isn't that a relief???

Haha...just wanted to have some fun with that.

I'd assumed you'd had some sort of Box of Rocks revelation and left for greener pastures. Nice to have you back. Now quick, respond to all the posts so we can see where you stand on all the relevant issues. :)

Always wondered what you did for fun.

So if we all agree that the Pats had only a few openings on their team, why didn't they do like the Jets and trade as many picks as possible in order to grab two great fits for their team instead of drafting a bunch and cutting most of them?

With all those picks was Merriweather and Richardson, the best we could do?

I tend to think we let an opportunity slip through our fingers.
