I am not saying it WILL happen

but what if the JETS came in with an offer for MOSS that the Patriots could not match?

It would be smart for the JETS, because they would weaken the Patriots and strengthen themselves at the same time.

They have plenty of cap space too.

I know we may soon have an answer, but I still think not using the franchise tag here was extremely risky and asking for trouble

NO its not happening, Belichick would not let this happen, plus if that happened , who is covering Moss?? That would be more scary for us.. But Im still being the optimist, Moss will be a Pat

Thanks a lot pal. I really needed to read this on top of everything else.

There would be no need for a poison pill. The Patriots don't have the right to match offers to Moss. He could, and I think will, give the team the opportunity to "match" any offer he receives, but unlike with restricted/franchised/transition players, the Pats would not have to match verbatim the terms of the other teams offer. In other words, they could remove any parts of the offered contract they don't like and supplement those sections with their own terms.

He is not a restricted free agent so I don't see where a poisin pill comes in.

Re: The JETS could really stick it to the Patriots if....

Who is going to throw him the ball? Clemens is not very accurate and Pennington cant throw it that far.

Look - He's not going there. It comes down to one thing with Randy, and it's not money, it's who's trowing him the ball. The Jets and 90% of the rest of the league is just another Oakland to him - He wants to play catch with a Hall of Fame passer......he has that here.

He passed on Brett and Green Bay to come here last year - He likes the system, like the coach, loves the owner and likes to on the cover of sports illustrated - Who's going to get him there? Pennington? Delhome? Please.

Of course, the money has to be there as well. He ain't playing for peanuts - but I promise...he is playing for New England.

Moss is playing now for the Ring and HOF. The Jets aren't going anywhere.

Re: The JETS could really stick it to the Patriots if....

If moss wants to lose 10+ games a year the Jets or Panthers would be a perfect fit, but i dont think his intentions are just all about the biggest contract. Not saying he is a lock to remain here but not a chance scrub teams like that have any shot at him.

Re: The JETS could really stick it to the Patriots if....

I hope you are correct.
It seems that right now the Jets are focused on Faneca.

But given the bad blood between the Organizations, I would be surprised if it did not cross their mind.
Apparently Coles is not 100% and their offense sucked last year.

Exactly and the only people that don't see it for what it is, are annoying freaking Sports writers that are just looking to have their story/blog linked to message boards like these to increase their ad rate........and our loving Pats fans that are a little too nervous.

Stay strong people. Teddy's back, Seau will be back, the Front Office will work magic in the draft and we will be well on our way to another great season. :)

If you doubt anyone that was on the team last year, then don't doubt 18-0 and a lucky lighting strike in the SB.

QB, OL were bigger issues than WR.
They have bigger issues to worry about and Randy probably wants to play for a team with a proven winner at QB and or a serious SB contender. Unless there is something about the Jets that I don't know I'd say the Jets don't fit any of those requirements. I'd say there is a handfull of teams that would fit those requirements. Indy, SD, Dall, Giants. I'd say Green Bay but Lord Favre could retire at anytime.

Re: The JETS could really stick it to the Patriots if....

i don't care if the jests take moss. it will kill them on the cap and they have no one to throw to him anyway.

the new york media will bring back the grandstanding, sulking Moss and the signing would be a bust. the good Moss will play for no one but the patriots.

the only way the jests could really stick it to the patriots is by winning the division.

Re: The JETS could really stick it to the Patriots if....

If the Patriots do not offer a financially competitive contract with what he could make on the open Market,

Brady or no Brady, Ring or No Ring...he will be gone.

The non use of the franchise tag, took away a great deal of leverage that they could have had.

Indy...unlikely, last time I heard a cap update with them they were quarter of a million over cap per NFL network.
SD...yeah.
Dallas...no. TO and Moss on the same team?? please.
Giants...dont think so. Theyre front 4 is good, but that's it. I'm still not sold on Eli. Sorry.
GB...they'd be stupid for shelling out the money when they have the receiver core they do and with Brett retiring at any time.
Jax...yes.
NE...YES!:D

Really? Do you happen to remeber how much money he left in Oakland? Let me remind you....a lot.

Brady and a Ring is all that matters. Well, and Kraft and Belichick too.

Btw, I was just expanding on your ideas. Youre exactly right...just going through all of the teams you named and looking at the possibility of them actually landing him.

After being mired in Oakland, I'm sure Randy will chase the $ that the Jets offer because he wants to win and by doing that he has a good shot at a ring by playing for the AFC juggernaut known as the NY Jets.

Re: The JETS could really stick it to the Patriots if....

Well, him and Chad were teammates at Marshall...

The Jets? You mean the Raiders East?

How'd that work out for Moss last time?
