and that Moss is going to hit free agency.

As free agency began Friday at 12:00 AM ET, the Patriots had no deal in place with Randy Moss, according to ESPN's John Clayton.

The 6'4 wideout with 4.3 speed and a 40'' vertical who scored 23 TDs last season is officially open to the highest bidder. The Patriots shouldn't be out of the picture, but the 31-year-old may as well look around. Feb. 29 - 12:08 am et

Now i am getting a bit nervous. I really thought they would have a deal in principle and the date would be a formality. Apparently thats not the case.

Re: Clayton claims no deal is in place for Moss

clayton is chicken little literally and I wouldn't put much stock in what he says.
If it's highest bidder he is jacksonville or washington bound.

Re: Clayton claims no deal is in place for Moss

Wow I really hope the Pats dont blow it and loose him.. but just cause they havent announced a deal within the first 20min of free agency doesnt mean they dont have a deal done right??? lol

If this is the case should of franchised him, but i'd bet he's already sipping on something expensive with 5 fine girls on snyders plane and is so drunk is believing campbell is a great qb.
While snyder snuck moss's phone away to block his messages from TB.

Re: Clayton claims no deal is in place for Moss

I know we're only 20 minutes into free agency but even i'll admit it's getting scary hearing stuff like this....

Re: Clayton claims no deal is in place for Moss

Before this, the last thing we heard was that a deal was in place.

Let's all cool down and wait a bit before we freak out.

Re: Clayton claims no deal is in place for Moss

Moss is just messing with the media. Waiting to see how many "Clayton" pieces will come out, then he'll make the announcement that he's staying with the Pats, make them all look foolish! (I'm hoping)

Re: Clayton claims no deal is in place for Moss

Would you guys classify Moss as necessity or a luxury for this upcoming season?

On one hand, we can be successful without a legit #1 WR, plus not having the cap number that comes with a player of Moss's stature, discount or no discount.

On the other hand, how much is it worth to keep Brady happy?

Re: Clayton claims no deal is in place for Moss

I'm just starting to get over the SB loss (and by get over, I mean leaving that dark hole I crawled into), please don't do this to me, Patriots. I want to enjoy the rest of '08.

Re: Clayton claims no deal is in place for Moss

I'm not worried either way, if he doesn't come back then I have to seriously look at his character.
Here is a team that believed in him enough to trade for him pair him up with Tom Brady and the best offense in nfl history.
Constantly praise him, let him rest thru training camp.
Stuck up for him when he had legal problems, never threw him under the bus.
And a quaterback that said were a package deal. and only helped him set a nfl record.
So if he chases the money or another situation I'll look down on him.

Might as well brace yourself. The coming days and weeks are going to be an interesting ride to say the least. As to Moss, my gut feeling tells me it was fun while it lasted. Hope I'm wrong.
'
Then again maybe they plan to formally announce a new deal tomorrow.

Its a huge deal that he stays. He instantly makes our offense still powerful alone.

Also it makes Brady that much happier not having to learn more new receivers.

Re: Clayton claims no deal is in place for Moss

Just because Clayton wants it to be true doesn't mean it is true.

And, for a wonder, I have to agree with PFT on this one: there are really only two possible outcomes here:

* Moss proves he's a man of his word, and re-signs in New England.
* Moss signs somewhere else, thus proving that he's full of it.

I'll still be happy for the year he gave us, but that won't stop me from booing him every time I see him if he's in another uniform this fall.

Re: Clayton claims no deal is in place for Moss

We are only 27 min, usually im the one panicking, into free agnecy. Im still confident it he is signed.. Clayton is still a tool..

He said he wouldn't break the bank for Kraft but would for any other owner so . . . . yeah . . . there was a little fibbing going on if he ends up leaving.

I want him to stay. For certain. However it's not a total no brainer with the various issues surrounding him and some other interesting ways to spend the money.

Re: Clayton claims no deal is in place for Moss

If nothing is announced tomorrow, I'll start thinking about being worried. For now, I'm holding out hope.
