JETS WANT JENKINS

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that trade talks are heating up between the Jets and Panthers, centering on defensive tackle Kris Jenkins.

Jenkins is one several defensive tackles being shopped around the NFL right now, with others including the Jaguars' Marcus Stroud, the Lions' Shaun Rogers and the Jets' Dewayne Robertson. Schefter reports that the Jets, who want a bigger tackle than Robertson who can play the nose in coach Eric Mangini's 3-4 defense, are expected to make a major push for Jenkins.

There has been speculation that the Jets might trade linebacker Jonathan Vilma to some team in exchange for a nose tackle.

The 28-year-old Jenkins has spent his entire seven-year career in Carolina and has made three Pro Bowls. He is due a $1 million roster bonus next week and base salaries of $2.955 million in 2008 and $3.71 million in 2009.

The Jets are desperately trying to get a NT. I wonder if Carolina will parlay this into fleecing the Jets. The Jets already unsuccessfully tried to get Shaun Rogers.

Jenkins knees are shot...maybe a short term solution for the rats...they're nuts if they sign him long term

Seriously a good NT is really hard to find these days, which makes me thankful having a great one like Wilfork in the middle of the Pats D.

He played all 16 games from 2001-2003, then only 5 games in 2004-2005, but came back to again play all 16 games in both 2006 and 2007.

So, he's had some injury history and he's also had some weight issues, but he's still a good player when healthy. I think his days of being considered one of the best D-linemen are behind him though.

Well, the word is that the the three way trade between the Jets, Lions, and Broncos where the Jets give up Vilma and get Rogers is dead. So I guess it was unsuccessful.

In fact, rumor is that the Dolphins look to be moving into the lead for Rogers.

It doesn't mean that the trade hasn't fallen apart. You are right that they can't make the trade until tomorrow. But the fact that the Jets seem to shifted focus on trading for Jenkins isn't a good sign for the trade for Rogers. They can't trade Vilma to both Carolina and Detriot.

Supposedly are going to go all out and lock up Alan Faneca. I have heard this all week long but who knows. Also if we could do that and pair it with a Vilma for Rogers swap followed by Gholston at 6 I think this would have the potential of a great offseason.

hey we will see when the football is hiked next september. Schefter on NFL network just said on NFL network that he expects that we will be the most aggressive team this offseason.
