He may not be a #1 or #2 but he did man the post in a superbowl
Too bad he manned it like crap, out we'd be watching 3G2G4

as one poster pointed out

"Randall Gay isn't a stiff.

He only gave up 5.8 YPA last season, which was considerably better than Samuel. He also didn't allow a completion on the seven vertical passes thrown in his direction."

I suppose you'd like Earth wind and fire back

Gay made few mistakes and ..... he knows our system ... that's NOT a trivial matter. Hey just #hit can all the CBs and start over after all Hobbs
gave up a bunch also. You guys kill me.

It's a shame that we are arguing over a stiff like Randall Gay. The

time has come for the Pats to draft a couple of good rookies and

then coach the heck out of them.

I'm for that. So far I'm thinking the Pats draft 2 linebackers, 2 corners, an OL, and a RB or WR. Oh yeah, I almost forgot the obligatory tight end. :p

Plus the entire group of UFA around the league.

The Pats have not signed a good UFA cornerback since Tyrone Poole

in 2003. They wasted a third round draft pick in 2005 on Duane Starks.

One year ago today's post - The Pats have not signed a good UFA WR since David Patten. They signed Donald Hayes and wasted a 2nd round pick on Bethel Johnson.

Not that impressed with Gay, he was a mediocre corner with an injury history and to be honest, I think Mike Richardson can step right into his role this season.

I wonder if the Pats will press Ty Law even more now that Gay is moving on.

Oh man, I'm getting giddy, we're within 9 hours and counting to the NFL FA bonanza, I won't sleep tonight, I'll have the computer right by my face with my <F5> refresh key set to automatic on Rotoworld.

Hahaha. That's the energy I like to see! We're in the same boat. It's finally here:D:D:D

Wow! That may have been my post from last year.

Why are you mad? He is a bum. Thank you Patriots for moving on. Time to get some new guys.

Better read above. you don't know what you are talking about.
Blue isn't a #1 CB or #2 but he is what you need for your 3rd or 4th
option ... bum hardly .... apparently you haven't watched Blue play much.
The only real knock on him is his durability.

Also ... he is the 7th best FA on the market.
And as a backup his stats are even better than that
guy so many wanted here who got franchied by Oakland.

Code:

               ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gay 33 7 3

Asomugha 32 7 1[/FONT]
and Blue was Not a starter!

Think about that carefully for awhile.

Your my boy blue.

I want you back don't listen to the others on here.

You are one of the best Back up CB in the league. You have started SB wins for this team. You have shown that you are not a seive. Come back we could use you.

I don't need to. You are really naive. Seems like you base how good a player is off of his stats. Asomugha was a starter and had only 32 tackles, 7 passes defended and one interception while playing all 16 games. Why do you think that is? Think about it. Because teams don't throw to his side. The man that he is guarding is not open. Do you want a CB to have 80-100 tackles a year? That is actually a really bad stat to have because for 1. teams throw to your side a lot and 2. you are unable to break up or intercept passes, leaving them no choice but to make another tackle. Now you have Randall Gay who pretty much comes in on third downs and had identical stats. So what does that tell you. Teams like to throw to Gay and would get toasted on a regular basis.

Better read above. you don't know what you are talking about.

One game that really stands out of how bad Randall Gay is when he was taken to school by Greg Lewis. He had 88 yards and 2 TD's. Lewis had less than 100 yards recieving total before that game. That's pathetic! And let's not forget this year's superbowl. Don't give me he was hurt crap, he was bad before and he's bad now. I don't feel like looking up other recievers that took him to school because that would take too long. The Pats are doing the right thing by letting that bum go. Gay is always a question mark of how long he will stay on the field. So he can go and make his 5 year 20 million dollar contract and get schooled by average receivers.

You got served.

You're smoking something if you think Randall Gay is even close to Asomugha's level. Post some stats (I'd like to know where the stats that other poster listed came from?), I've seen enough to know what Randall Gay is. When he was out on the field for any significant time be got beat, and gave up TD's to third and fourth WR's. Sometimes he'd give up position, or get burned over the top. That stat someone listed talked about "passes thrown in his direct", which is likely misleading. I know for a fact he got torched a few different times in the Eagles game alone, and had some trouble during other games.

Now, I don't want to make it sound like he sucks, and he's a scrub, because he's not. But, he is not a good option to replace Samuel as a full time starter, and would struggle in that role. Hopefully he's a member of the 2008 NE Patriots, but he wouldn't be hard to replace.

Didn't mean to suggest he was starter material, the comparison was to show he is no "bum" as another poster suggested. Blue is a darn good
3rd CB. Yeah he got beat but so did Hobbs and Samuel so what.
Blue can make plays ... he has shown that ... and for the most part he
id well. if Blue had to be a starter he might even get better as he did in the
SuperBowl he started.

he's not bad...but don't you think they can do better?? he also has been injured a great deal..and that is never good.. but I agree..he's not terrible at all..and I think he knows the Jets will pay a better price for him than the Pats...

He's a JAG. He's fine as a role player, nickel or dime DB. He'll never be a starter. Personally, I like having him as an option. We've had worse DBs. He is what he is. He should go and get as much money as her can. I wouldn't offer him anything more than league minimum until 2011 with a one million signing bonus.

From what was said today..Burton..4..it looks like as Wilson left, so is Gay..coming back does not seem an option, which I don't like. Testing the FA waters is fine..I don't have a problem with that, but burning bridges is not the best thing.

Randall Gay is leaving?? OH NO!!!

THE SKY IS FALLING!! THE SKY IS FALLING!!!

I'm shocked that a few days ago, Samuel was referred to as a 'product of a system' because we KNEW he was leaving, but a JAG product of a system is possibly going and some of you are up in arms? I can't shed a tear for Randall, he filled a void, as have many others, but he was nothing more than a guy who knew where he was supposed to be. He wasn't impressive, imo, on any level other than that, and certainly wasn't a starting DB, and, again, imo, wasn't even really that qualified as a 3rd or 4th...over the years we've all drunk the punch, but we lose in the SB and it's like some of you forget that we were always believing in the system before we believe in the individuals...well, let's try out someone good in the system for a change. 4th round and higher draft picks become stars, maybe we can have a little faith that BB and SP can find someone or 2 or 3 good in the draft and FA that can outperform the JAGS we've had filling in behind Samuel and Hobbs for the past 2 years.
