If dorsey slid down to #7 and Ryan, the Longs and McFadden are all gone I would say nobody would offer much to move to #7 and Belichick would take Dorsey.

So now you have Dorsey and Wilfork on the same team and you now consider being more of a 4-3 team. All this hypothetical because here comes the real question...

Would you immediately try to trade Seymour to grab one of the DE's left in the draft and i would assume you get more than a #1 for him also. I have always said Seymour is a DT ... others say this also ... so really who wants 3 DT's on a 4 man line.

Anyways .. would you grab Dorsey and try to trade Seymour asap before the 1st round is over? Keep Seymour if round 1 finishes with no takers.

There is no way I draft Dorsey. He has no position in this defense.

don't know his signing bonus of the top of my head but it is huge and would be a big hit next year.

Dorsey and Ellis are built for the 4-3.. THis is why neither will get consideration from us or the dolphins..

no one is going to give you a 1st round pick for seymour

he's had injury problems , he's simply not worth a #1 at this stage in his career

aka you're overvaluing him

pick the de/olb from ohio state???????

If Dorsey ends up in our lap we will draft him. MY guess is that BB has talked with Vince about an extension this week. If he didnt want one with the possibility of the upcoming capless years....bye bye Vince. He is still on his rookie contract, easy to trade. Now we wont get anything HUGE for him, it would be like renting a player for a year and no one will give up a hi 1 for him, but it might be alot like a 2 for 1, getting Dorsey and another guy(say a cb)signed long term instead of a lesser valued player and having to pay Vince HUGE $$ next year. DONT TRADE SEYMOUR, both Ellis and Dorsey can play the nose.

they are not going to trade him period they are goingto trade the pick to a tea that wants a DT. an d as for the lack of a cap year it'll never never never happen it's just the owners blustering trying to set it up so they can get a better deal when the time comes

I'm confused......

When healthy, Seymour is as good a defensive lineman as there is in the league. Now, granted he's had injury problems the past 2 years, but so has Dorsey. So, why trade a pro bowl player with years of his prime still left for a guy who doesn't project to be a 3-4 DL? That's essentially what your idea comes down to.

Seymour came on strong at the end of the year and played very well during the playoffs. I was not thrilled with his production the last two year but now kind of look at it as:
2006 writeoff - injury plagued
2007 focus on the playoffs - treated him with kid gloves so he would be 100% for the playoffs, I don't think he was 100% but he did play very well in the playoffs

Who knows, maybe this makes him cheaper and we have a better chance at keeping him beyond 2009. He is a rare player, at a premium position in the Pats defense.

No way do we trade Seymour on the hope that dorsey would make it big. BB would not throw out the depth/experience just for a rookie. if anything he would keep seymour and see how he does, etc. Possible trade after a year or two. THese threads seem to make it appear that Seymour sucks. My god,. He does not. AS for trading Big Vince? Comeon. The guy is a rare find. Anyteam in the league running a 3-4 would give us a first rounder for him in flash. He is an absolute stud dlineman. BB would pay him what it takes to keep him.

I don't think Seymour will play to the end of his possbile career. He is supposedly very family orientated and hates being away from the family. he has hinted about retiring early in the past. I think he packs it in before he runs out of gas ... like within 3 or 4 years.
That's what I was thinking when I made the thread.

If the Pats traded Seymour, they would have a 6 million dollar salary cap

hit in both 2008 and 2009.

I do not know the extent of Seymour's injury, but I have a feeling that Seymour will never be the same player was was 3-4 years ago again. What he will become is an average 3-4 DE who excels against the run.

Of the two DT's, I think Ellis could play NT in a 3-4 defense, if he got a little bigger. He gets low at the snap and stays low and is very difficult to root out of his hole.

I haven't liked the scouting reports on Dorsey. Add in the injury, and I'd just as soon let someone else take him.

No, but if Erin Andrews fell into my lap, I might.

No. Absolutely not. First, The cap hit from trading Seymour makes its unfeasible. He still has 12 million is signing bonus pro-ration. Seymour only counts 6.84 million against the cap. You'd eat up anohter 5.16 million by trading him.

Next, the entirety of the Pats defensive front 7 is designed for the 3-4. Changing to the 4-3 creates more problems than it fixes. The Pats have no 4-3 Defensive ends except maybe Green. So, you'd have to move at least one of Thomas or Vrabel there. But then you have holes at OLB. Bruschi doesn't have the sideline to sideline speed needed to play the MLB position. So, you also have a hole at MLB. You also have absolutely no depth.

Actually, I think you are full of it. I'd be willing to bet the Pats could get a 1st rounder for Seymour. But that isn't the issue. The bigger issue is the extra 5.16 million cap hit that the Pats would take by trading Seymour.
