Resiss: Gay to FA - no PATs contract

Just pay the man...he can't be asking for that much, and he is a solid CB back there

Good. Time to clean house.

19-0 and a SB loss has got to have killed the psyche of this team.

We need new blood.

most likley hes going to test the market, then he will decide to come back to the pats.

He is nothing more than a JAG anyways. He was our JAG so obviously we like him more than other people's JAGs but he is still a JAG. No need to pay any kind of $ to a Randall Gay type player.

According to KC Joyner, this isn't accurate at all.

He may not be a #1 or #2 but he did man the post in a superbowl and
has filled in quite well. He knows the system and that is something
considering BB's system.

This potential loss is significant in light of Samuels leaving and Hobbs ?health.

The Pats' current alternatives to Randall Gay are Mixon, Richardson,

and Spann.

DRC looks like a reality more and more................

Plus the entire group of UFA around the league.

Gay was decent, but he isn't exactly a guy we couldn't afford to lose at any cost. The one time he filled in for Hobbs as a starter this year he was horrible.

Samuels will be tough to replace. Gay will not be that tough.

He's a 3rd or 4th CB who can start in an emergency. He shouldn't be expected to fill a starting role on a regular basis though. I didn't think he looked all that good in 2007, and gave up some huge plays that he shouldn't have, if he's starting quality. He's not a "jag", but I have no doubt someone like Chevis Jackson could fill his spot on the team (if Gay leaves via free agency), and could be an upgrade over Gay once he develops. Let's not forget Randall seems to be injured for large portions of the season, and has found himself on the IR multiple times. So, I wouldn't sign him to any kind of significant contract.

It's a shame that we are arguing over a stiff like Randall Gay. The

time has come for the Pats to draft a couple of good rookies and

then coach the heck out of them.

Jets...not surprised...I think the Jets will land him...no big deal though...Richardson, SPann, a FA...a draft pick...

Randall Gay isn't a stiff.

He only gave up 5.8 YPA last season, which was considerably better than Samuel. He also didn't allow a completion on the seven vertical passes thrown in his direction.

His biggest concern, IMO, is durability.

Along with the loss of Samuel, it will strip the cornerback roster

almost bare. I would not be very confident with any of the people

you mention above starting opposite Hobbs.

good riddance.....wish him all the luck in the world, but he's just not that good.

Not that impressed with Gay, he was a mediocre corner with an injury history and to be honest, I think Mike Richardson can step right into his role this season.

I wonder if the Pats will press Ty Law even more now that Gay is moving on.

Oh man, I'm getting giddy, we're within 9 hours and counting to the NFL FA bonanza, I won't sleep tonight, I'll have the computer right by my face with my <F5> refresh key set to automatic on Rotoworld.

Frankly I don't think its a big deal to lose Gay other than finding someone else to fill his backup role. He has been decent at times, but also has been badly burned otherwise despite whatever statistics you want to bring up.

Additionally he has shown he has difficulty staying healthy, which despite any statistics, is critical in evaluating him I think.
