Decision day

With the doors to free agency set to swing open at midnight, Tedy Bruschi [stats] is expected to reveal today whether he intends to continue playing or retire.

Earlier this week, his agent, Brad Blank, indicated the 34-year-old linebacker would inform the team of his plans before free agency.

The prevailing sentiment is Bruschi will return for a 13th season. With the departure of Rosevelt Colvin and Zach Thomas’ choice to go to Dallas, the Pats have a need for Bruschi, even if he ends up playing a reduced role.

Asked in November about having to make concessions because of his age, Bruschi said if he felt he lost something, he’d hang it up.

“In terms of adjustments, changing your game, I don’t know if it’s possible. Either you can play football or you can’t,” Bruschi said.

“When I watch myself on film, I self-evaluate. I look at myself and and I say, ‘Am I still contributing? Am I still doing the things I think help this team win?’ And to me, the answer has been, all the way for 12 years in my career, yes.”

Bruschi, who spent last weekend in Maine with his family, will have to work out a new deal with the Pats if he decides to keep playing.

I hope for his benefit he moves on, my memories of #54 are full tilt full time.. and last season he fell short of this mantra.. do not want to see him not playing with minimized capabilities.. I am sure Mr. Kraft has a home for him and Troy in his organization, or one of the organizations he is close to.

I'm with you. I love you Bru, and always will, but I think it's time to hang them up. I love to see him in land somewhere in the org. as well.

Ditto TB

Love and want #4 for Bru.

Better be coming home to some good news today...

I want him back. I don't care what anyone says, we can win with Teddy.

I guess leading the team in tackles is quite short of the mantra....OK...whatever he does,,it's fine with me...If he hangs the cleats up, I agree..hope they land in the Pats org someplace..On the other hand, I have a feeling there is still a lot left in teh tank..enough for another year..at least. No matter, he's always been a fave of mine..and will always be.

My memories of Bruschi are very fond, coming out of Arizona I would not call him a star but he became one as a Patriot. To me he represents what this club is all about, hard work, perserverance, overcoming, dedication, loyality to a cause.

My 2 cents...I want him back but just for one more year. I would also like to see him remain in this organization for years to come.

As fans what we have to understand is that we have a winning culture that has been born and moulded with certain individuals. We have good people. We need to hang on to them....

I agree. he may not be the Tedy of 2001 but he's still more than good enough for rotational duty and to police the locker room.

2 Descions will either be made today,

1 Tedy Bruschi will retire a Patriot

2 Bruschi will be a Patriot 1 or 2 more yrs..

I will be shocked for him to say today, I want to play, but for someone else..

That will never happen.

I'm sure that Tedy will make the best decision for him, his family, and the team. Personally, I want him back for at least another year, his impact on the locker room and on the field is still viable and important. Tedy and Vrabs mentoring our young LB's is equally key to the teams future.

Again, we all thought Tedy was done 3 yrs ago, when his stroke happened.. But he came back , and may have not been the same, but was still good enough and his heart will always be with us..

You're right; when he signed his last contract, he said that he wouldn't play for any other team.

Just one more year Teddy, we need you with the loss of Rosi.

I want Tedy to do what's best for Him and His family.I'm fine with whatever decision He makes.I'm selfish enough to want to see Him play again but I'm also humble enough to live with his decision either way.He deserves this from all of Us since he's given so much to Us and The organization. We're all Tedy fans whatever happens !

Wow. What a great post. Youre exactly right. Talking about Tedy retiring brings tears to my eyes. I was only 10 years old when we drafted him and my family liked his name so much, we named our kitten Bruschi. We didn't know then that Bru would become the kind of man and player that he is today. He will surely be missed on the field if his decision is to retire. However, he we always be remembered as an all time great Patriot. We are so lucky to have a man like this as part as our team, he is an inspiration to all of us. We love you Bru. God Bless.

According to Michael Holley, no decision from Bruschi will be announced today. He said that Bruschi probably already knows what he is going to do and so does Belichick, but it is doubtful Bruschi will make an announcement today.

did he have any reasons why not today?

did he have a reason why the rumors that the decision will come today?

if he has made his decision what are they waiting for? (contract?)

Maybe your last sentence. The Pats now have Bruschi's agent

to contend with.
