Basically saying the Patriots did not use Moss properly in 2007. Yeah, that's what he said! Unreal. He said, the reason the Pats lost the SB is due to not using Moss and getting him the ball. Golic spoke up and said, no, they had to keep Brady clean first to get the ball off and Carter ranted on about how he just could not get Moss the ball and so on and on...

He said NE better keep Moss because they have no difference makers. Welker will be shut down without Moss and if Moss goes anywhere else like SD or Jacksonville he will tear it up just like he did in NE. Not giving Brady any of the credit, it was all Moss Moss Moss. Greenberg said Moss was the MVP of the league! Unreal. Are these people blind?

Carter went on to say how brilliant Moss was as a football player. I think we can all agree on that. Carter said how he would adjust in games and he had a great deal of respect for him in his ability. Carter also said that Moss can stir up crap at times. He is tempermental and his talent has allowed him to get away with some things. He said Moss grew up in a very very tough family environment and used that as an excuse for his behavior for a long time but there comes a time to be a man and he thinks that the Patriots environment and being around 'men' helped him grow out of being a boy or acting like a boy at times.

Interesting stuff....

Will Randy stay in NE. According to Carter he didn't really say but did say the $$$$$ is out there and depending on Randy's mood of that particular day, he could go either way. He mentioned SD a few times and the do need a WR badly, but damn, how do you go from Tom Brady, the ultimate QB and professional to Rivers???? That is my comment, not Carters!

Carter's an idiot...nothing has changed!

Now they are talking about Moss going all over the NFL. Saying Green Bay, Cleveland, Dallas etc...

Why would Moss go to GB???? Farves days are numbered and Moss will sign a multi year deal. Does he want Arron Rogers throwing to him in two years? Doubtful!

I just can't see Moss going anywhere other than saying put in NE. If he does move on he will not have the season he had. I just don't see it happening. Other than him going to Dallas as the rumor, Moss will be good next season, but not great with a SD or Browns team. I just don't see it.

Every one will have their two cents of why what and what should have been done,,.I really wonder if there should be a sticky thread where all the many so called pundits and players can chime in on what would do..what should have been done etc..don't really care that much...M&M have been a major disappointment since pre Super Bowl with their blatant and total misrepresentation of Spector and what was going on..They are totally without credibility as far as I can see...One minute they were wondering so much about WHY Spector was pushing for it..IGNORING Comcast and then giving softball questions to teh Senator..ESPN..what does one expect...

Can I tell you how "excited" that ESPN replaced Sean Salisbury with Cris Carter. As bad as Salisbury was, he at least came up with an insightful point or two every once and a while. Carter is just plain awful.

Funny, people have been trashing McDaniels on this board and in the media for him trying trying too hard to constantly try to go down the field and not try to do use the short game enough. Now Carter is blasting him for not trying it enough?

The only thing that could be worrisome is that Carter and Moss do talk and Carter could be echoing Moss' feelings. My guess though is that Carter came up with this stupid theory himself.

i am amazed that ESPN is getting rid of Sean and bringing on Chris C.

This guy is about one vowel removed from being illiterate.

I heard this on the way in to work as well. This guy is really not getting off on the right foot in my mind. Is it really surprising he would give credit to Moss and not Brady? The guy was a receiver himself.

To me, he sounds like a buffoon. This really speaks to the most annoying thing about ESPN's football coverage, it's too over-saturated with meathead former players who think they still play the game.

Other than the MVP comment, where were they wrong? Has Gaffney become a difference maker somehow? How about C.J., Kyle Brady or Watson?

Did the team put Moss in motion any real amount of the time to keep him from getting bumped on the line and allow him to get off clean? Did they give him slant patterns behind a Stallworth 'go' route?

over the years espn has done some bonehead things. this is right up there with the worst of them.

Cris Carter......'nuff said. The guy has always and continues to be, both, an idiot and biased against the New England Patriots.

I agree with Cris Carter that Moss was not used properly in the Super Bowl. Big players make big plays in big games. Why settle for using Moss as a decoy? We could've gotten creative and found ways to get the ball in Moss' hands. I was as shocked as anyone when Moss had zero catches in the first half.

Moss and Tom make each other better. We won 3 SB's without a monster WR like Randy. The only other truly great WR during the Tom Brady era I can think of is Deion....but even Deion isnt Randy Moss. Can't wait until tomorrow to hear the news about possible contract extensions.

He wasn't a decoy. He was the primary WR. If you didn't notice, Brady spent a good amount of time in the first half on the ground. Hard to have a big player make big plays when the guy throwing him the ball is either sacked or hit before he can get the ball to him.

The Pats gameplan going in was to stretch the field with Moss and Stallworth and exploit the Giants' secondary. Unfortunately, guys like Justin Tuck, Osi Umenioyora, and Michael Strahan had different plans.

Funny enough, when Golic and Carter were talking about those old Eagles teams of which they were teammates, Golic pointed out they would have won a championship if that team had an offense. Carter quickly pointed out, offensive LINE. So he understood back then the importance of a line, but somehow, when trying to force the ball to Moss in the SB, he forgets all about the line.

The thing that's haunted me a little in thinking about Moss' season is how in the biggest spot of his life, Moss couldnt make the LEAP to go for a ball that he may never get a chance to catch again. Talking about that 3rd down play in the last minute of the SB, of course. And I dont care how great a player is when a play like that happens. That MOMENT is all about desire. And at that moment, THE moment, he didnt have it. David Tyree had that desire. Moss just didnt. that ball really should have been his. he could have gone up for it. he could have slowed and let the coverage interfere with him and drawn the flag. things could have been done on that play. and its tough to break down one play. but when youre antying up potentially $30million for a player, you tend to feel a bit justified in bringing up potential weaknesses.

I'm not sure he's entirely off base. Moss has had similar seasons without Brady. Brady has not even come close to a similar season without Moss.

Hell, I think Brady would be the first to admit most of the credit goes to Moss.

And I also agree with Carter that -- God forbid -- Moss ends up on Jax or SD or Dallas, and that team becomes the prohibitive favorite to win the SB.

For those of you who don't want to assign that much credit to Moss, if he ends up on those teams, watch what happens in Vegas to NE's SB odds and the odds of the team that gets him. That will tell you all you need to know about Moss's value.

Brady has never had an elite WR. I wonder if Brady could put up the same numbers with a Reggie Wayne, Chad Johnson, TO, etc. I think it may not be Moss per sea rather than an elite WR in general.

Moss does deserve a lot of credit for this season, but I think Brady could put up elite stats with any elite WR. Maybe not record breaking stats. I still think the biggest difference between Brady and Manning in the stats column in their careers was Marvin Harrison.

I am not trying to diminish what Moss brought to the team, but to argue Brady hasn't had close to this season without Moss is a little misleading to state Moss' importance to the team. If the Pats were avble to pry Chad Johnson from the Bengals, can you argue that Brady would have significantly worse a situation than he had last year with Moss?

I think you could soundly argue Brady would not have as good of a year with CJ as he had last year with Moss. Brady had a career year. Period. He won't approach that next year even with Moss.

My point is that Moss is more than an elite WR like Wayne or CJ. Moss is a once-in-a-generation WR who changes the complexion of games in a far more meaningful way than you "average" Pro Bowl WR.

Yes, and I'm sure Carson Palmer would agree if he could do so anonymously.

I posted something like this, after the SB loss, and my feelings are similar on the subject.
Iirc, someone commented that Moss did address it in a post game interview, and evidently regretted it.
It still sucks to think that Tyree's play will undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest in SB history, and Moss didn't make an effort to come down with that ball.

Did we have identifiable difference makers heading into 2001, 2003 or 2004 on offense, beyond Brady that is...

We don't know what Randy was truly amenable to doing, either. The word has long been he is not a precision route runner and doesn't especially like to go across the middle, and one of the few times he did he got whacked pretty good in the mouth to the point he had to sit out a series to shake it off. Had he been seriously hurt there I would bet there would have been endless criticism from talking heads and fans for not using him properly and it costing a season.

I just hope Carter is not in fact echoing a lament he heard from a friend, because that would be excuse making - which is just not a fit in this system. If you give a guy a $30M deal I would hope it includes his behaving himself through tough times, and so far the toughest times we've asked Randy to behave through consists of losing a SB in the closing minutes.
