The Titans released wide receiver David Givens Wednesday after two seasons in which he was bothered by injuries.

Givens, 27, signed a five-year, $24 million contract with the Titans after leaving the New England Patriots in free agency. He started 10 games in 2006, catching 59 passes for 738 yards. His season was cut short by a torn ACL, and he wasn't the same in 2007. He caught eight passes in five games.

Re: Old pal David Givens cut

Reiss had a piece last weekend about him...3rd knee surgery this past January..a LONG rehab process...and who knows if he will be able to play effectively...very sad. If he was further along, certainly I think the Pats would give him a shot...Of course..

yea, hes still only 27. get him back on a one-year incentive laden deal, wouldnt be a bad fit. especially if caldwell goes elsewhere.

Re: Old pal David Givens cut

Props to him for getting the most guaranteed money, and staying classy all the way through the dollars-driven decision.

And as a result, should the worst happen in his health and career -- he's still popular around here, giving him a potential advantage if he soon has to decide what to do post-football.

Re: Old pal David Givens cut

That is true..he got the bucks..he is a classy guy though..met him once and he was very nice.

Wha???????

To bad for Givens. I loved him on the Pats.

Re: Old pal David Givens cut

Givens is done. There's a strong possibility he'll never walk right again, let alone be able to play football. It's too bad, he had a very nice career in front of him and there was no bad blood between him and the organization or the fans when he left to pursue his payday, unlike some others we might be able to name.

Re: Old pal David Givens cut

Here is hoping somehow he can get back to the field

Re: Old pal David Givens cut

His career is over. 2 years in row having season ending injuries. What team would want him now?

Re: Old pal David Givens cut

Now I'm glad he had a big pay day just in case this is the end. I always appreciated his play for the Pats.

Re: Old pal David Givens cut

Sad, I thought he was a bigger loss than Branch when we let him go...iirc he averaged 17.3 or so yards per catch his final season before he left, amazing for a "possession" guy his size in my mind. I always thought he was one of the best clutch receivers we had, seemed to always be good for 15+ on 3rd down when it mattered most. Hope he plays again somewhere.

Caldwell? You mean Gaff?

Your intuitions are true. Hold the record for consecutive playoff games with a TD at 10........

Re: Old pal David Givens cut

My lasting memory of David Givens will be his TD in SB XXXIX when he steps on the ball and shows off his guns!

Re: Old pal David Givens cut

My God - between Givens and Pac Man, how much salary did the Titans waste in recent years?

Teams like this worry me - the prospect of an uncapped year in 2010 is the best hope they have of getting out of Cap Hell and contending for a title. I'm not expecting their owner to exactly have the best attitude during negotiations with the NFLPA

Re: Old pal David Givens cut

There is no need for him here right now, a great Pat, but we have our WR's.

Pete Prisco, of CBSSports.com, reports the Tennessee Titans released WR David Givens Wednesday, Feb. 27.

But David....I thought you were going to be a superstar in Tenn....what the heck happened????

Re: OT: David Givens released by Titans

I hope he got a degree from ND and saved all the money he made the last two years. I think his next uniform will be a shirt and a tie. Good luck, David.
