In Talks with the Pats

The Patriots are in talks with Kelly Washington regarding a new contract.

The five-year, $22 million deal he signed last offseason will be ripped up shortly. Washington seems likely to return as mainly a special teamer.

It seems like its almost a sure thing he is coming back.

I LOVE this guy as our #5 WR and ST ace.

I'm calling it right now. He will be the starting WR opposite Moss. The guy has a great work ethic and I see him beating out Chad Jackson for the starting spot. Book it :rocker:

This is a joke, right?

God i hope not.

They are looking for more WR's like Booker and still Gaffney for that role.

Good. He's the best STer, on any team, that I've seen since Steve Tasker.

I could see him getting some reps there with Gaffney getting a bigger load and Jackson getting a shot if we don't bring in another "2". Welker is the #2 option. The other "starting" wide receiver on this team will be the 4th-5th-6th option with way we use Welker, Moss, the TE's and RB's.

I am stoked about us retaing him for ST's. He's a solid gunner.

i agree completely.

And as for the other guy saying that Washington can beat out Chad Jackson for a starting spot, i think that is definitely possible...

why not?

Would like to see him more involved in the O, but is a good ST guy

Because Chad Jackson is a superstar and the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Because Gaffney would start over Washington if Jackson is a bust.

Technically still special teamers.;)

Yeah but you knew what I was getting at. Return men are a whole different game, and a good return man is a lot easier to find than a special teams ace (or else we wouldn't be cycling return men like they're flies while Larry Izzo will be resigned every year until he's 85).

I'll be very disappointed if going into camp Jackson and Washington are the 2 guys competing for a starting WR spot. This team has enough cap space and enough options to not be depending on guys with no catches to start.

i'm only talking about the idea that Washington could start over Jackson

If Gaffney didn't come back, or got hurt, or whatever, it is not unreasonable to say that Washington might start over Jackson.

As of right now, that #2 spot is wide open. Kelly has a good a chance as Gaffney or Jackson. There is no question that he gives 110%. And he has good size. We'll see i guess.

If that's the case, it would be a disaster.
